Anna Leonard 11/12/11 The first theory that I found important in the reading was the idea by Baym

that users incorporate their offline lives into their online lives. This entails that people are coming back to the sites to build their community. The Internet community is dynamic and is not just reached through a screen. The second theory is that by Kellner. He emphasizes the pluralistic nature of the public forum that is in contradiction to the mass media. In the public forum those dissident voices may be raised. This goes back to the idea of everyone being able to participate in the web. This entails that users will be more comfortable voicing their opinions even if they are not conventional to the mass media/opinion. It is important because freedom of speech/press is in the Bill of Rights. The final important theory, proposed by, Jenkins, is the idea that the consumer has a role in shaping the technology he or she uses. This entails that producers utilize their fan base and use them in shaping their product. This theory is important because of Web 2.0; and the idea that the consumer creates the web and does not have to conform to the web.
