Introduction

Below document will explain how you can configure fields in the material master (Transaction
MM01/MM02) based on specific requirements. For example if you want to set certain field in a material
master to mandatory, option or hidden, then below are the steps you would follow.
Eg:
Need to set External Material Group field (in Basic data 1 tab in Material Master) Mandatory for FERT
Material Type only.
Configuration Steps
First you have to get the Field Technical Name.
a. Click on that field
b. Press F1
c. Go to Technical Information
d. Get the Screen Field Name


Go to SPRO/ Logistics - General/ Material Master/ Assign Fields to Field Selection Groups


Click on Field Name button

Paste that copied Field Technical Name there & press Enter


Highlight the Line & press option




Select the Material Type FERT Using Position option from the below grid.

Tick on "Reqd Entry" combo box.

Save


Remarks:
Please note that FIELD REF: can be reference to many types. You can see those referred types by
clicking on . So that all change will be applicable for all those as well.
Eg: You might get below screen.

If you do a change now for FERT, same will applicable to FERT, PLN, PROD, SCND, etc as well. You can
see this reference Material Type from Material Type as well.

Note:
Sometimes SAP has put 2 or more field in one Field Selection Group.
In that case; you can keep the field that you want & remove other fields from that Group.
Then you can do the same change to that group.
