B. WORSHIP 1. Its etymology: 2 anglo-saxon words weorp; weorthan Worship as acknowledgment of who God is (the One who is worshipped) and of who the worshiper is. implies a RELATIONSHIP between God and the worshipper

C. OLD TESTAMENT, cf. CFC 1496-1497: Worship can only be understood in the context of the RELATIONSHIP between Yahweh and his People Israel = Covenant Fidelity to the Covenant had a twofold demandlove of God and love of fellowmen. Israels worship ceased to be pleasing and acceptable to God when their external forms of worship failed to be matched by justice and concern for fellowmen. It constituted disobedience, infidelity to the COVENANTAL RELATIONSHIP. D. NEW TESTAMENT, CFC 1498: Christ by his total obedience to the Father, the perfect sacrifice, took up our worship and made it acceptable once more to the Father. That is why when we worship (when we pray) we do it through Christ our Lord!
