6.1 System Reliability

Reliability

The BTS3012AE is designed after an overall analysis on system reliability. The BTS3012AE enhances its system reliability through the following methods: Active/standby mode Load sharing Redundant configuration Optimized fault detection of boards and system Optimized fault isolation

Redundancy Design
The BTS3012AE has a redundancy design. The key clock bus, control bus, data bus, and the DTMU modules use 1+1 backup mode. The BTS3012AE also supports the transceiver (TRX) mutual aid.

System Monitoring
The BTS3012AE can automatically detect and diagnose faults in the hardware or software and report them through alarms. It can also detect environmental status and report abnormalities in time.

6.2 Hardware Reliability

The BTS3012AE enhances hardware reliability through the following methods:

Prevention Against Mistakenly Inserted Boards Redundancy Design of the FAN Box Protection Against Excessive Rise in Temperature of the DTRU Reliability Design for Power Supply

Issue 01 (2007-08-25)

Commercial in Confidence

BTS3012AE V300R005 Product Description

Prevention Against Mistakenly Inserted Boards

When a functional board is inserted into a wrong slot, it does not come in full contact with the backplane. This prevents the equipment from being damaged.

Redundancy Design of the FAN Box

The fan works in N+1 redundancy backup mode. If a fan is faulty, the other fans run at full speed. Under normal temperature, this design can meet the heat dissipation requirement.

Protection Against Excessive Rise in Temperature of the DTRU

When the temperature around the last level power amplifier is too high, the power amplifier reports the excessive rise in temperature through an alarm, and then enters into the automatic protection state.

Reliability Design for Power Supply

The power supply system of the BTS3012AE has the following features in terms of reliability design:

The power supply system has the power environment monitoring system, which performs the following functions:

Monitoring the power distribution of the AC/DC Managing the charging and discharging of the storage batteries Monitoring the cabinet environment Monitoring the storage battery cabinet environment Monitoring the extension cabinet environment Monitoring the input and output of extended alarms

When the external power supply fails, the internal storage batteries of the BTS3012AE can supply power for several hours. An alarm about the failure of the external power supply is sent to the OMC to prompt for proper handling. The BTS3012AE uses a distributed power supply. The DC/DC power modules operate in N+1 redundancy mode. When a module fails, an alarm is sent to the OMC. You can easily replace the faulty module because the DC/DC is hot swappable. The power supply has a lightning protection function and a function for protection against voltage variation. The BTS3012AE provides power failure protection for programs and data. The boards of the BTS3012AE provide protection against excessive voltage and current. The boards of the BTS3012AE provide protection against reverse-polarity connection.

6.3 Software Reliability

The software reliability of the BTS3012AE is reflected in its powerful error tolerance capability. The entire system is not corrupted when the software fails. That is, the

system has self-healing capability. Error tolerance of the BTS3012AE is shown in the following aspects.

Regular Check on Key Resources

Seizure check is conducted on various software resources in the system. The check mechanism can ensure the release of suspended resources and the output of the related logs and alarms.

Task Monitoring
When the software is active, the task monitoring function can monitor any possible fault in the software or hardware. In addition, detected faults can be reported. Task status and system abnormalities can also be monitored.

Data Check
The system can perform regular or event-driven checks on data consistency, restore the data consistency selectively or preferably, and output related logs and alarms.

Saving Operation Log Information

The system records user operations within a certain period and saves the recorded information to the system operation logs. Operation logs can be used to locate errors or exceptions because of incorrect operations so that the system can be restored to the normal state.

Glossary

A A device which radiates and/or receives radio signals. When working as a transmitter, it converts high frequency current to electromagnetic waves; when working as a receiver, it coverts electromagnetic waves to high frequency current.

Antenna

B Baseband BSS Baseband is a form of modulation in which the information is applied directly onto the physical transmission medium. In GSM the Base Station System is a term given to a BSC (Base Station Controller) and the BTS (Base Transceiver Station) associated with it. The number of BTS associated with a BSC is dependent on the manufacturer. Although not mandatory, through interpretation of the Abis interface standard BTS and BSC employed within a BSS will always be supplied by the same manufacturer. The BSS is the physical equipment used to give radio coverage to a determined geographical zone called a cell. Functionally, a BSS is subdivided into BSC and BTS. Base Transceiver Station A Base Transceiver Station terminates the radio interface. It allows transmission of traffic and signaling across the air interface. The BTS includes the baseband processing, radio equipment, and the antenna.

C Cell Radio network object that can be uniquely identified by a User Equipment from a (cell) identification that is broadcasted over a geographical area from one UTRAN Access Point. A Cell is either FDD or TDD mode. A sine wave, whose bandwidth is much higher than the bandwidth of a signal and, which can be identified by amplitude, frequency, and phase.

Carrier

H Handover The transfer of a users connection from one radio channel to another (can be the same or different cell).

BTS3012AE V300R005 Product Description

R The most common type of diversity, where a mobile device uses two physically separate antennas to combine signals from the two antennas to reduce the impact of spatial variations in signal strength and thus increase the average data rate available - sometimes dramatically.

Receive diversity

T TMA TRX A Tower Mounted Amplifier (TMA) is a lower noise amplifier installed close to the antenna. A transmitter and receiver housed together in a single unit and having some circuits in common, often for portable or mobile use.
