Bearing
accessories
areengineeringitemswhichhelpin
gettingmaximumout of a bearingtogetherwith reducingthe
.effort requiredin mountinganddismounting.Sleeves
obviatedirectmountingof bearingon shaft,whichin turn
facilitatesfrequentmountinganddismountingandreduces
thewearandtearof shafttherebyenhancingitslife. Useof
sleeves
for mountingof bearingalsoleavescushionfor

purpose.
Ontheother hand,housingshaveprovisionfor proper
lubricationandprotectionfrom dustyenvironment
which
eventually
leadto longerbearinglife. Besides,
additional

In India,SKFobservedthatthe reasonsof failuresof
bearings
aremostlyassociated
with useof inferiorbearing
accessories.
Therefore,
SKFintroduceda seriesof bearing
accessories
underthebrandnameof SIBCOwhichconform
to sametechnicalstandardthatgoesin the makingof SKF

selected.At speedsunder20%of the limitingvalueand
normaloperatingconditions,theoil viscosityshouldbe
100mm2/s
(100cSt)andatelevatedtemperatures,
160mm2/s
(160cSt).
If,for maintenance
or other reasons,
a singleoil isto be
usedfor the lubricationof acompleteinstallation,
andthisoil
hasa viscosity
whichis higherthanthatrecommended
by
SKF,nodifficultiesshouldbeencounteredasregards

elevatedoperatingtemperatures
maybe
expectedif speedsarein excessof 70%limitingvalue.

LimitingSpeed:
Thelubricationsystememployedfor SIBCOSOFNbearing
housingsmakethemparticularly
suitablefor high-speed
applications.
Thelimitingspeedsquotedin thetablescanbeapplied
providedthefollowingconditionsarefulfil!ed:
77

Theloadis predominantly
radial,i.e. theaxialloaddoes
notexceed30%of the radialload.
Theequivalent
dynamicloadresultsin a basicratinglife
for the bearingof at least50,000
operatinghours.
Coolingoftheoil isensuredbynormalaircirculation
aroundthe housing.
Spherical
rollerbearingshavingC3radialinternal
clearance
areused.
Whereoperatingconditionsareparticularly
favourable
(verygoodheatdissipation,lightloadsetc.)speedsin excess
ofthe limitingvaluesgivenin thetablescanbepermitted.It
is,however,advisable
to consultSKFin suchcases.
Because
ofthegoodlubricationachievedin SOFNbearing
housing,the limitingspeedsquotedfor bearingswith
cylindricalborearehigherthanthosenormally
recommended
bySKFfor sphericalrollerbearings.
Whenbearingsmountedon adaptersleevesarerun at
elevatedspeeds,unbalance
maybeproducedresultingfrom
themachining
tolerancesofthesleeves
or mounting
inaccuracies.
Thusit is recommended
thatwherespeedsare
in excess
of thelimitingvalues,cylindricalborebearings
shouldbeused.
Forbearingapplications
wherespeedsapproachthe
limitingvalues,it is necessary
to ensureatthedesignstage,
andduringmanufacture
of the components,
thatthe even
runningof the bearingis notimpairedbyaxialoscillationor
byunbalance
of the rotatingcomponents.
If theaxialloadisgreaterthan30%but notmorethan60%
of the radialload(0.3< Fa/Fr~ 0.6),the limitingspeedsmust
becorrectedbyusinga multiplicationfactorof0.8.Whenthe
valueof Fa/Frexceeds0.6,SKFshouldbeconsulted.

BearingRadialInternalClearance
Atelevatedspeeds(70%of the limitingspeedsandabove),
sphericalrollerbearingshavinga radialinternalclearance
greaterthanNormal,e.g:C3shouldbeusedbecauseofthe
higheroperatingtemperatures
producedatsuchspeeds.
Similarlyif heatis suppliedto the bearingsthroughthe shaft
so thatthereisatemperaturegradientbetweeninnerand
outer rings,bearingswith greaterradialinternalclearance
thanNormalshouldbeused.

Maintenance:
Beforestartingup for the firsttime,theoil quantityquotedin
thetablesshouldbe putintothe housings.
Themaximumoil
levelguarantees
lubricationof thebearingwhenit starts
runningbeforeit ran besuppliedwith oil pickedup bythe
ring.Thus,the oil levelshouldberestoredto maximum
beforestartingup afterall longstoppages.
Evenif the housingis carefullycleanedbeforeuse,thereis
a riskthatsomeimpuritieswill be leftinside.It isthe~efore
advisable
to changetheoil afteraninitialtrial runningperiod
of a fewhours.Subsequent
oil changes
canthenbemadeat
convenientintervals,but shouldbeundertakenat leastonce
ayear.Thebearingsmustbe ata standstillwhentheoil is

changed.

IfI duringthetrial run,no oil leavesthe housing,a monthly

checkof theoil levelshouldbeadequate.
Duringoperation,
theoil levelmaysinkto the minimumlevelgivenin the
tables.If oil isto beaddedduringoperati,on,
it shouldbe
filledto a levelsome5 mmbeneaththe maximumoil levelon
the indicatorto avoidoverfilling,sincesomeoil will bein

Ablindholewith an M424thread,pluggedwith a plastic
stopper,is providedin the housingcap.If required,a
thermometer
or thesensorof someothertemperature
measuring
devicemaybeinsertedin thishole.Theholestops
justshortofthe bearingouter ring,sothatit is possibleto
measure
thetemperature
in closeproximityto thesourceof
heat.A morerapidindicationoftemperature
changeis
obtainedthanwouldbepossiblebymeasuring
the

of theoil. Thedepthof the holeisgivenin the
tables.

Howto Order:
It is notsufficient,whenordering,to quoteonlythe bearing
housingdesignation.
Theotherparts-bearing, lock nut,
lockingwasheror adaptersleeve-must be specified,and

Interference
frictionbetweenbearingandshaftcanbe
employedfor transmission
of torsionalload.However,
earlierits usewasrestrictedbythe difficultyof mountingand
dismountingof componentsagainstthisfriction.
Introductionof oil injectionsystemhasmadeit possibleto
assemble
or disassemble
components
with interference
fit,
quicklyandeasily.In this case,oil underhighpressureis
forcedbetweenthe matingsurfaces
sothatanoil film is
formedto separate
the contactsurfaces.
Thus,theforce
requiredfor the relativedisplacement
of thebearing/part
of
the jointis reducedto a fractionof whatisotherwiseneeded.
Theintroductionof oil alsominimisesthe riskof damaging
the matingsurfaces.

We manufacture different types of oil injection pumps

suitablefor developing pressuresupto 300MPa.SIBCO
rangeconsistsof two such pumps,e.g. HE001and HE002.
The SIBCOoil injection pump is a hand-operatedpump, in
which the piston is operated by meansof a forked lever
pivotedto the cylinder body. The pumpsare availablewith
reservoirvolume of 80cm3(Model HE/001)
and 200cm3
(Model HE/002)
(seefig.11).

Operation:

equipmentthis adapterblock can be held in a vice to provide
rigidity for easieroperation.
(3) ConnectionNipples:The adapternipples shown in

ductsfor pressurisedoil often haveto be madewith large
bores.Beforefitting an adapter nipple, it is advisableto insert
a rod of slightlysmallerdiameterthan the bore of the, ductto
reducethe volume of oil required.

Introduction:
A highanduniformpressureis requiredfor mountingand
dismounting,small,mediumor largebearingswith taper
bore.
TheSIBCOHMVnutisan extremelyusefulhydraulic
accessory

the four plain holeson the outer diameter of the nut, and
used asa lever.Theoil pressuremustbe releasedbefore
unscrewingthe nut, by either opening the return valveor by
disconnectingthe pipe. The pressuremedium to be usedis
machineoil with a viscosityof 80-120mm2/sec(80-120CST)at
50C.Beforestartingto pump oil into the HMV nut, it is to be
ensuredthat the annularpiston is asfar back in its groove as
possible. If the piston is not in this position, the nut mustbe
tightened so that the piston is pushedin by inner ring of the
bearingor bythe sleeve. When this is being done, the return
valveon the pump mustbe kept open.
