COLOUR The white background and the pale skin contrasted with the dark eye make up and the tiara highlights the two sides to her personality and suggests she is synonymous with evil. MAKEUP The makeup is very prominent in this shot. Her eye makeup is applied in the style of swan feathers, this links in with her psychological transformation into a swan. Her lips are a very deep red representing the danger she brings upon other characters. The character appears to have a white face paint/mask on her skin which signifies her innocence and vulnerablitity.

The character is looking directly at the camera/audience which creates a haunting and sinister feel to the poster. No emotion seems to appear on the characters face, making the audience unable to relate to her through the film poster. However, we want to go and see the full film so we are able to understand and relate. Her eyes are heavily blood shot, which could simply signify her tiredness through her ballet rehearsals. This could also represent her evil alter ego taking over her innocence. The centre of the picture is very focused, but blurs towards the edges. This brings the focus onto the characters face. This relates to a quote in the trailer, where her teacher says The only thing getting in the way is you

TYPOGRAPHY The title of the film is in black writing, which stands out against the contrasting white background. This title is a lot larger than any other text on the poster, so we are instantly informed of the name, but we are also able to link this with the image. The title of the film is very unconventional, as white swans are the most commonly known.

The font used is Serif style. This creates a classic and traditional look. The B and the S are significantly larger then the other letters in the title. The S also resembles a swan.

Although the cast members are not written in as large writing as the title, they are sill large enough to be seen. The three cast members included in the poster are : Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis. All 3 of these actors/actresses are well known for big blockbuster movies, allowing us to make the presumption that the film will be high quality and successful. The cast members names are more visible than the directors, this is as he is not as well known, and the main selling point are the actors. Information in the first showings of these films is included in the poster. ( Venice 2010 and Toronto 2010) This also shows this is a worldwide blockbuster.
