General Method Statement

Topographical Survey Work
Task To carry out survey task as specified by the client in their tender document survey brief.

Survey Equipment (to be selected from below list based on specific task requirements) Survey Instrument: GPS Equipment: Geodimeter/Trimble Direct Reflex DR Reflectorless Total Station & Accessories Leica Series 1200 GPS Equipment & Accessories

Health & Safety Surveyor to carry out Risk Assessment when arriving at site (using standard company form), before commencing any work. Survey work to be carried out in accordance with Total Surveys Limited Health & Safety Policy document, and as detailed in the company Guidelines and Safe System of Work documents, (copies available here). Access not to be attempted to confined spaces or potentially dangerous conditions. Survey work not to be carried out in hazardous areas.

Methodology Set-up GPS base stations on tripods in adjacent safe areas; to be left to gather data in order to co-ordinate the survey to Ordnance Datum and National Grid co-ordinates; by utilising Ordnance Survey RINEX data, (if specified within the survey brief; otherwise an arbitrary site datum & grid to be used). Survey control stations to be established throughout the survey area as required. Use Direct Reflex Total Station to survey relevant features, as required. Site features to be recorded by surveying points of detail from control network survey stations. This is carried out by using a detail pole held over the points to be surveyed, and the required observations being made using the survey instrument; this can be carried out as a 1-man operation, since the instrument is Robotic and can be operated remotely by radio link. In hazardous or inaccessible areas, as much survey work as possible to be carried out by maximising the use of the DR technology; (which enables features to be surveyed remotely without direct access). Survey data to be downloaded into laptop computer for processing and drawing production.
