Did!you!know!that!the!Public!Disclosure!Commission!(PDC)!has!strict!rules!governing!all! candidate!donations,!as!well!as!who!and!how!much!each!one!of!us!can!receive?!These! regulations!are!intended!to!help!the!voters!understand!who!is!donating!money!to!get!each! candidate!elected.! These!reports!cannot!tell!you!why!an!organization!or!individual!is!spending!large!sums!of! money!to!help!a!single!candidate;!for!that!you!must!draw!your!own!conclusions.! The!Public!Disclosure!Commission!never!considers!personal!or!organizational!endorsements!as! being!valuable,!but!I!think!that!they!should.!Often!times!these!endorsements!are!thinly! disguised!forms!of!payback!for!a!favor,!or!involve!some!unwritten!agreement.! The!fact!that!money!has!not!passed!from!one!person!to!another!is!irrelevant.!In!addition,!a!long! and!outwardly!impressive!list!of!endorsements!can!be!a!sign!that!special!favorites!and! preferential!treatment!will!be!forthcoming!if!the!campaign!is!successful.! My!Grandmother!Sylvia!always!said!If!you!lie!down!with!dogs,!dont!be!surprised!if!you!get!up! with!fleas.!Check!out!candidates!websites!to!see!if!you!can!tell!who!will!be!given!special!favors! in!the!future.! Another!question!to!contemplate!when!you!see!a!long!list!of!political!and!organizational! endorsements!is!what!might!have!been!promised!to!these!organizations?!Some!possible!results! might!be:!special!access!to!the!candidate!or!office!that!the!candidate!is!trying!to!win;!special! considerations!for!future!bid!or!work!contracts;!or!in!the!case!of!employee!contract! negotiations,!who!will!get!that!big!raise!and!who!will!not.!!! My!campaign!is!self"imposing!a!contribution!limit!of!$200.00!for!individual,!and!$500!for! organizations.!These!self"imposed!limits!are!much!smaller!than!the!ones!the!PDC!has!imposed! for!Mayor!of!Port!Orchard.! I!dont!think!that!having!large!amounts!of!money!and!a!huge!endorsement!list!consisting!of! folks!that!dont!live!or!vote!in!Port!Orchard!will!be!that!helpful!to!my!opponent!or!harmful!to! me.!
