Iulia Hadeu Castle

The Iulia Ha deu Castle is a big house built in the form of small castle by historian and politician Bogdan Petriceicu Ha deu in the city of Cmpina, Romnia. Work on it began in 1893, after Ha deu's daughter, Iulia Ha deu, died at the age of 19, an event that dramatically shook and changed Ha deu's life. He claimed that his daughter provided the plans for building the castle during sessions of spiritism, which took much of Ha deu's imagination and time after Iulia's death. The building was completed in 1896. The Iulia Ha deu Castle , who was requiring a lot of reparation, even when Ha deu was in life, was affected by the first world war and in 1924 the People's Atheneum of Cmpina "B.P.Ha deu" tries to take it for restoration. The castle was affected again by the Second World War and it keeps its state till 1955, when its name was written in the Listing of Historical Monuments. The main entrance to the castle is a huge door made of stone, supposedly fixed on a diamond bearing. On the outside of this door is written the sign of Ha deu's family and two texts: first is "pro fide and patria"(for God and country) and second is "e pour si move" ("nevertheless it moves") which encourages visitors to press this door of stone, which is easily opened and permits entrance to the castle. The door was sided by two stone thrones, on which there were carved Iulias main seven reincarnations, the twelve laws and the Pythagorean symbols (the pentagram and the seven circles). On each throne there was a woman sphinx, guardian of the entrance. Since 1994 the Iulia Ha deu Castle has been housing the "B.P.Ha deu Memorial Museum which displays furniture, personal belongings of Ha deu family, photos and original documents, manuscripts, Ha deu's reviews, many pictures made by Nicolae Grigorescu and Sava Hen ia.
