Bhopal : A person found guilty of cow slaughter in Madhya Pradesh will now face imprisonment of seven years, against the earlier three, and a minimum fine of Rs .5,000, a statement said Tuesday. A government press release said the Madhya Pradesh Gau-Vansh Vadh Pratishedh (Sa nshodhan) Vidheyak (Madhya Pradesh cow-progeny slaughter prohibition (amendment) bill) has received the presidential assent, following which it has become an ac t. With the enforcement of the amended act, the responsibility of proving the prose cution wrong would lie with the accused. The state assembly had in 2010 passed the bill amending the original act of 2004 . The amended act also covers transporters and their agents. Additionally, any police officer not below the rank of head constable or any per son authorised in this behalf by competent authority shall have the power of ent ry, inspection, search and seizure.
