Objective:

To determine allowable bearing capacity of the ground using JKR dynamic cone penetrometer.

Apparatus:
JKR probe set with additional rods and coupling, scale, chalk, datum bar.

Procedure:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Assembled the JKR probe set. Mark 300mm marks on probing rod. Keep the set up vertically. Lift the 5 kg hammer up to 280mm mark. Let the weight fall freely. The cone will penetrate with the blows. Again lift the weight up to the 280mm mark and again let it fall. Repeat the act and go on counting the number of blows required for 30cm penetration. 6. Repeat the step 4 and 5 for the next 30cm penetration. 7. Repeat the step 6 till desired depth is achieved (12 m or maximum) or a refusal is there i.e. number of blows required for 300mm is more than 400. 8. Determine the allowable bearing capacity of the different strata at different depths using correlation chart for JKR Dynamic Cone Penetration and Allowable Bearing Capacity.
