Doedicurus clavicaudatus wasaprehistoricglyptodont. Ithadahugedomedcarapacethatwasmadeofmanytightlyfittedscutes, somewhatsimilartothatofitsmoderndayrelative,thearmadillos.Itstailwas surroundedbyaflexiblesheathofboneandhadlongspikesorknobsontheend, atleastinmaleindividuals

Thiswasthelargestknownglyptodontid. Withaheightof1.5metersandanoveralllengthofaround4meters. Glyptodontweighedaround1,5tones. Itwasamammalandherbivore.

GlyptodontlivingduringthePleistoceneErauntiltheendofthelast glacialperiod;some11,000yearsago.

D.clavicaudatus (Glyptodon) inhabitedNorthAmericanandSouth Americanwoodlandsandgrasslands.

FossilsofD.clavicaudatus arefoundinNorthAmericaandSouthAmerica, especiallytheEnsenada FormationinArgentina.Giventhelatedateofits disappearance,itwasencounteredandprobablyalsohuntedbythefirst humansettlersofSouthAmerica.

Itstailclubwasprobablyusedinintraspecific conflictratherthandefense againstpredatorslikeSmilodon
