Differentiation: Learning Style: (Kinesthetic make a human timeline) (Auditory listen to the story, oral instruction) (Visual read the story, graphic orgainzers) Interest - choose vocabulary word for homework Strategy: Think Pair Share, graphic organizers Warm Up: On board, have some steps that the students have to put in order (as a group). Also copy these steps on to the dry erase board slates. Select a few student volunteers to hold the slates. Guide the students through arranging the steps in order by moving their classmates around until the process is in order.

Anticipatory Set: Hand out the steps in a process graphic organizer getting ready and give the students about 10 minutes to fill it out. They should be very familiar with their own morning routine before school. Direct Instruction: Go over working definitions of the vocabulary words found in the story The Diver and the Dolphins as a group. Guided Practice: Play the story The Diver and the Dolphins on CD. Ask the students to follow along in their readers. Follow the reading guide for good stopping points in the story to ask the students about the steps in a process they just heard. Also point out the vocabulary. Allow students to ask about other words they do not understand and clarify comprehension questions. Independent Practice: On the promethean board, write questions about steps in a process within the story. Ask the children to Think-Pair-Share with their shoulder partner. Review a few selected answers as a group when the children are finished sharing with their partner. Closure: Reflection journal ask the students to respond to the following prompt in their writing journal: What would happen if we did not have steps in a process? Give an example. Explain the link between cause and effect and steps in a process. Homework: Vocabulary graphic organizer allow students to choose one word from the vocabulary list and they can define it more in depth. Go over this graphic organizer as a class using the lamp and the promethean board. If they did not have time for the steps in a process think-pair-share or the reflection journal, these can be assigned for homework.

Assessments: Informal reflection journal, beginning sort (human timeline) Formal steps in a process test (to be administered Thursday, after review), vocabulary/comprehension test (to be administered Friday, after review).
