Suggested procedure and the plan of an article review

1. Read the article to understand (general topic, the message, the aim of each paragraph). 2. Think over and organize your ideas (topic and the message of your report, basic factual information, your reaction and opinion, agreement/ disagreement with the key issues and reasons for it, a conclusion).

1. The title of the article

Some expressions to be used while reviewing


The article is headlined.... The article under consideration ( under review, under observation) is called ... The author of the article is... The article is written by... It was published in ... It is (was) printed in...(newspaper, magazine, column etc) The article deals with (touches upon, reports on)... The article is devoted to... The key-note of the article is ... The article is addressed to... The author emphasizes (explains, points out, considers, etc)... The key question is ... Author`s stand (position) is... The purpose of the article is to give the reader some information on... The aim of the article is to provide the reader with some material (data) on... In the article the following burning questions are raised... The author starts with ... The author states (stresses, thinks, persuades, puts under question, points out)... The article describes (explores, examines, focuses on)... The article is based on author`s experience (research data etc)... As the story/subject/theme unfolds, we see... So to sum it up (to top it up, to cope it)... The author draws to the conclusion (infers, comes to the conclusion)... The author gives prominence to the issue of... Phrases: In my opinion, in my view, to my mind, from my point of view etc. Adverbs: Undoubtedly, surprisingly, unquestionably, confusingly etc. I found the article important (persuasive, dull, of no value, hard to understand)... I believe, consider... The article raises urgent / burning questions / issues... The article is deeply thought-provoking. I was highly amused (quite surprised, excited, deeply disappointed). The ideas presented are perfectly developed (inspiring, engrossing, admirable etc). I would argue on some issues.
