Physics 12 Course Outline

Welcome Back!! In this course you will learn all you need to know to be successful in a university physics course. As you are no doubt aware, this is a provincially examinable course, so we will need to be conscientious in our approach to the work we do. Homework: You will have work assigned virtually every class. If you miss a class, you will need to make every effort to catch up as quickly as possible. With a few exceptions that will be clearly announced, all homework for a unit will be due the day we do the PRACTICE TEST. Lates will have marks deducted and eventually will be considered dead. Extra Help: Mr. McCarty has almost no life. I will stay after school most every day as long as there are students needing help. Also, on most Tuesdays and Thursdays I will be here until 6:30pm. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I will be available for extra help from 7:30am until school starts. I am also available every lunch time. There are some challenging topics in Physics 12, so from time to time, I expect that everyone will take advantage of the extra help that is available and come in to see me. Break down of Marks: Course Breakdown: Tests and Quizzes: 70% Homework: 30% The topics we study will be as follows: Vector Kinematics Vector Dynamics Energy and Momentum Torque and Equilibrium Circular motion and Gravitation Electrostatics Current Electricity Electromagnetism

If you remember your physics 11 well enough, youll realize that well be almost half way through the course before we attempt a topic that is truly new. This means that you already have a good start on the course by having taken physics 11. Good Luck and Have some fun!! Mr. McCarty 2/2/2007
