Wired Differently 2011- Interaction Begins Here

Wired Differently is a one-day event held at NIACC for high school students.
Goal: Engage and inspire high schools students to choose a STEM or Business career path. Provide highschool students with authentic first-hand opportunities to participate in STEM activities, thus inspiring interest in STEM and Business disciplines and careers.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: 9:30AM TO 10:30 AM IN THE AUDITORIUM Biju Kulathakal Co-Founder of RedBox
Biju Kulathakal is a serial entrepreneur and Founder and Chairman of Trading Block Holdings Inc, a financial services holding company based in Chicago. Previously, Biju was a founding partner at GetAMovie which was later sold to McDonalds and subsequently became part of RedBox. Redbox is currently one of the largest movie rental companies in the United States and the fastest growing in terms of revenue. He was also a founder of Enterprise Logic Systems, a software development firm that specialized in developing technology solutions for the financial services and trading industry. In launching Trading Block, Biju envisions creating a new paradigm that will allow more investors to benefit from using exchange-traded options in their investment portfolios. Options are highly flexible financial instruments that can allow investors to hedge the portfolio against losses, or increase income from their existing portfolio. In addition to his leadership role at Trading Block, Biju is currently an advisor to OCA Ventures, i2A fund and Axios Investments LLC as well as an active angel investor in the financial services space. He is also the founder of Vidya Foundation, which provides scholarships to underprivileged children in third world countires. He has previously served on the board of the Beck Foundation, Chicago Charter School foundation, Civitas Schools, Leap Learning Systems and the Heartland Institute. Biju received a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology.

TV Crime Solvers: How do they use technology to get the bad guys?
Crimes that require the use of a computer are best solved using computer forensics; these include identity theft/phishing, email fraud and copyright infringement. However, terrorists and murderers are also being prosecuted, found guilty and sentenced with the help of computer forensics. Presenter: Joseph Idziorek, Iowa State University.

Joseph is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University in Ames, IA, USA. His research interests broadly lie in the areas of cloud computing security, anomaly detection and distributed denial of service attacks. Idziorek also teaches Introduction to Computer Security Literacy at ISU and is co-authoring a textbook for this course. He obtained his BSc in Computer Engineering from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota, USA. Do you know hackers steal passwords? Art & Technology, Artist Joan Nixt .
From the moment Joan first held a pencil, she has been drawing. From the age of six she has been filling sketch books with doodles and realistic art. Nothing pleases her more than to use her talent of illustration. This talent has led her to many types of artistic mediums all throughout her life. Joan enjoys learning new techniques but illustration has always been her strongest point. Now, with the technological advances in graphic/digital art, she is once again expanding her horizons and finding that this new medium is right up her alley.
