Q: Difference between Conglomerates and Breccia ? A conglomerate is a rock consisting of individual clasts within a finergrained matrix that have become cemented together. Conglomerates are sedimentary rocksconsisting of rounded fragments and are thus differentiated from breccias, which consist of angular clasts. Both conglomerates and breccias are characterized by clasts larger than sand. IN addition to the factors described in this section, conglomerates are classified in terms of both their rounding and sorting. While, Breccia is a clastic sedimentary rock composed of angular fragments of rocks and rock particles that have been lithified. Conglomerate is a clastic sedimentary rock composed of rounded fragments of rocks and rock particles that have been lithified. Breccia is usually formed closer geographically to the point of origin of the rock fragments than are the rock fragments in conglomerate. Breccias can also form in fault zones as rock from either surface of the fault is broken by fault movement and subsequently re-lithified.
