15 March 2012 Pin-in-Hole Interference Fit Application of ANSYS to contact between machine elements (chapter 7)[1] Objectives 1.

To observe the force fit stresses of the pin, which is pushed into the arms hole with geometric interference. 2. To find out stresses, contact pressure and reaction forces due to a torque applied to the arm (force acting on the arms end) and causing rotation of the arm

Note: stresses resulting from shearing of the pin and bending of the pin will be neglected purposefully. Dimension Pin radius = 1 cm; Pin length = 3 cm; arm width = 4 cm; arm length = 12 cm; arm thickness = 2 cm; radius of hole in the arm = 0.99 cm; Depth = 2 cm (through thickness hole) Material Both the elements are made of steel with Youngs modulus = 2.1 109 N/m2; Poissons ratio = 0.3 and are assumed to be elastic.
