Henkels field reps have visited many CAT mechanics these past months. The traditional use for the CAT Green Cement had been in two capacities: 1. To hold cut gaskets in place on applications including: oil pans, valve cover gaskets, coolant gaskets and more. 2. A general purpose adhesive to bond trim, foam, insulation and headliners.

Detailed feedback from the field evaluation project, face to face conversations with CAT mechanics, and results from our in house Engineering Laboratory report (comparing Loctite Hi-Tack Gasket Sealant (p/n 30525), the Loctite Aviation Gasket (p/n 30517), and the traditional Green Cement (CAT 5H-2471) conclude the following:
The Cat Green cement dries very hard. The Lab report confirmed it was stronger than the Loctite products at ambient temperature. The hardened Green Cement can make it difficult to remove the gasket when it is time for servicing. Grinding the gasket off is a common practice.

Shear Test (STM)

Shear testing was performed at ambient laboratory conditions after 1 week at 400 F on all three products. Both Loctite products exhibited hi-strength while the 5H-2471 fell apart. Loctite Aviation Gasket (p/n 30517) = 410 lbf* with no failure Loctite Hi-Tack Gasket Sealant (p/n 30525) = 366 lbf* with no failure

The 5H-2471 is in a 8oz brush top container compaired to the Loctite 30540 which is in a 5 oz tube. A. Yes, the package configuration is different but according to our field evaluation project, the majority preferred the Loctite applicator and tube package over the original 5H-2471 commenting that it was easier to use. Q. This new Green Cement is black A. Although different in color, the previous CAT brand and the Loctite brand are quite similar in composition and functionality. Both products are solvent based adhesives designed to bond leather, cork, rubber, all types of weatherstripping, headliners, wall insulation in cabs, and general purpose bonding.
*Henkel Corporation recommends that you test all new adhesive applications under simulated or actual end use conditions to ensure the adhesive meets or exceeds all required product specifications. This data was generated under highly controlled laboratory conditions, and may not represent actual assembly conditions. Since assembly conditions may be critical to adhesive performance, it is also recommended that testing be performed on specimens assembled under simulated or actual production assembly conditions.

Viscosity*** (thickness)
The viscosity of the Green Cement is higher than both the Aviation Gasket and the Hi-Tack Gasket Sealant. Green Cement (p/n 5H-2471) = 20,200 cps** Loctite Aviation Gasket (p/n 30517) = 2,350 cps** Loctite Hi-Tack Gasket Sealant (p/n 30525) = 225 cps**

Results / Summary
Applications requiring to hold cut gasket in place during assembly and where temperatures may reach up to 500 F, the Loctite Hi-Tack Gasket Sealant is a good choice. Time can be saved due to the ease of disassemble and preparation to re-install. The Loctite Black Contact Adhesive (p/n 30540) is a very good choice for use on applications to bond headliners, foam, and general purpose bonding.

The cross reference to the CAT 5P-8937 is not accurate. Per Cat HQ Product Management the CAT 5P-8937 Silicone Lubricant (p/n186-1529 EAME) will remain with CAT until further notice.
