AP Research Paper Outline The Greek gods had varying echelons of power that they used to punish the

Greeks for their pride, despite sharing similar qualities for which they punished the Greeks for having. The Greeks believed and worshipped a pantheon of gods1. The gods, regardless of their sex, are mercilessly supreme2. Therefore, humans created temples3, altars4, and made offerings out of respect to their gods5. For fear of reprisal from the gods, the Greeks were very careful of their behavior, actions, and conduct in regards to obeying the gods6. They were discouraged from boasting and exuding supreme pride7. There are many myths and stories8 of the lowly humans being punished by the gods for having done something that displeased the all-powerful gods. The people of Greece praised the gods and the gods accepted that praise. They (the gods) only cared for the glory and praise they received, and often times acted as if the humans were disposable using them for their own amusement9. While the gods had tight reign over the actions committed by the Greeks, they did not follow their own ideals. In many mythological works, the gods had shown many human qualities, such as pride and jealousy, which they despised10.
