Synthesis Essay Groups

You have been placed in a home group that you will remain with until the end of the writing unit. This group is your TEAM for the next two weeks. Each group member has been assigned a role. You are responsible for knowing what your role is and understanding the responsibilities it carries. If your group members do not feel like you are performing the job that you have been assigned, you may ultimately be fired. If you are fired, you must complete the group assignments or tasks on your own. Trust me, you do not want to have to do this! Here is a description of the group roles: Group Role Facilitator Responsibilities of Role Makes sure that all group members have the opportunity to participate effectively in group tasks and discussions Monitors the progress of each group member Recaps the previous days lesson for absent group members. Gathers the materials needed to complete the tasks for the day Hands out papers/supplies to each individual student Gathers papers/supplies at the end and places them back on the cart. Remains mindful of the time remaining for a task Keeps all group members on task Serves as the groups policeman/policewoman Records the status updates for each group member Writes any whole-group material to be turned in Assists the facilitator in recapping lessons for absent students

Our class sessions will be structured differently with these groups. At the beginning and end of each class, you will meet with your group for 3 minutes in your assigned location in the classroom. I will have a timer going, so be sure that you are using this time wisely. You will be given various task to complete both at the beginning and end of the class period. Be sure to pay attention to the PowerPoints as you enter the classroom each day! Your group is going to be your support system. If you are absent, you should ask your group members what you missed. Be sure to exchange numbers, emails, etc. Feel free to come up with a creative name for your group!
