The Military Situation
- Random gunfire by Al-Assad's forces claimed the lives of three women in the Idlib city of Maarat al-Numan. One woman was also killed in the Damascus suburb of Doma and two people martyred in Al-Dablan district, Homs. (Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Jazeera) - Violent Clashes broke out between the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and government troops in various areas; in Deir Al-Zour's Al-Jora district near the State Security headquarters, in the Damascus neighborhoods of Jobar and Al-Qaboun, in the Damascus suburb of Doma, in Daraa's district of Al-Maliha Al-Gharbiya and in Hama governorate. (Asharq Al-Awsat) - Some troops defected from Al-Assad's forces and joined the FSA in the Daraa town of Al-Harah. (Asharq AlAwsat) - According Syrian opposition activist and head of the Lebanese town of Al-Bekaa, more than 35 Syrian soldiers raided Al-Bekaa area on the Lebanese-Syrian borders. During the raid, Al-Assad troops shelled and destroyed houses. Violent clashes erupted between government forces and the FSA, which resulted in various casualties from both sides. Political Stances Arab


- The Arab foreign ministers will discuss a draft resolution on Wednesday on the eve of the Arab Summit in Baghdad. The draft resolution confirms the Arabs' constant stance towards maintaining unity, stability of Syria, as well as sparing it any foreign interference. The resolution also condemns the serious violations committed against human rights. The draft resolution called for allowing humanitarian organizations in Syria, as well as granting journalists and media access to the Syrian territories. International
- The US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Al-Assad regime's approval of the UN-Arab envoy's plan will be shown only through the actions it will take on the ground. (Asharq Al-Awsat) - The US Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford expressed skepticism about reports that Syria had accepted the peace plan of UN-Arab envoy Kofi Annan. (Asharq Al-Awsat, AlQuds Al-Arabi, the Lebanese Al-Mustaqbal, Reuters, Russia Today) - In his six-point plan, the UN-Arab envoy Kofi Annan called on Al-Assad's regime to forge ahead with a comprehensive political process meeting the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people, comply with a UN-supervised ceasefire, allow humanitarian aid in, release those who were arbitrary detained, ensure freedom of movement for journalists and, finally, respect freedom of assembly and peaceful demonstration guaranteed by law. (Asharq Al-Awsat) - The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad praised the Syrian leadership's handling of the revolution, saying that Tehran would do everything it could to support its closest Arab ally. (Reuters) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that To assume that Assad's departure would solve all problems would be very myopic. The Political Mobillity


- The Syrian opposition forces convened in Istanbul agreed on forming a committee including all opposition forces, which will draft a project for restructuring of the Syrian National Council (SNC) in a maximum period of three weeks. (Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Quds Al-Arabi, the Lebanese Al-Mustaqbal, Al-Jazeera, the Wall Street Journal) - The Syrian National Pact, which was approved by all opposition forces in Istanbul conference, stipulates that Syria's new constitution will have no provisions implying discrimination between Arabs, Assyrians, Kurds, Turkmen or other races, as well as providing for equal rights for everybody within the framework of unity of Syria's people and territories. (The Lebanese Al-Mustaqbal) - Dr. Radwan Ziadeh, member of the SNC, says that AlAssad regime's approval of the UN-Arab envoy Kofi Annan's plan is to gain more time for committing repression operations as much as possible.
