QUEST FOR THE BEST

QUESTIONNAIRE
(OPTIMAL STUDENT PROFILE)

SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS THAT WILL BEST EQUIP OUR SCHOLAR/SOLDIERS FOR LIFES BATTLES (If you could have chosen which characteristics and skills you would pour into the empty vessel of your own newborn child, these would probably be some of the ones you would have added.) Arithmetic skills Beauty, both interior and exterior CREATIVITY Decision-making skills Energetic Flexible Gregarious Honest Intelligence Jocularity (sense of humor) Kind Likable personality MEMORY (photographic memory) Non-confrontational Organizational skills (A to Z lists) Punctual Questioning/curious READER (speed reading) Speaker/orator Talented (art, acting, music, sports) Unflappable Visionary Writing skills Extroverted Yearning for learning Zest for life

The three skills I feel are very important but are not usually considered for inclusion in the optimal student package are the ones I have capitalized: CREATIVITY; SPEED READING AND PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY. When I was preparing the items I wanted to propose, I started with just those three. Then I applied a method I often use, the vertical A to Z list as a brainstorming tool, and was able to add 23 other important characteristics and skills. That is why A to Z lists appears next to Organizational skills above: A to Z lists, as simple and as obvious as they seem to be, are very effective. I create hundreds of them every year and I am never disappointed with my results. I have used and have taught the three skills I have capitalized and they do work. I have available samples of the courses I encourage members of the Boards of Education to investigate and to implement in some form. I also recommend publicizing and utilizing web sites like the Khan Academy to augment classroom instruction. Ron Gagliardi 5 Dover Court Cheshire, CT, 06410 203 272 0701 elgaggo@aol.com
