DIARRHEA

It is an increase in the
number of stools and the
passage of liquid, unformed
feces. It is also a symptom of
disorder affecting digestion,
absorption, and secretion in
the gastrointestinal track.
DEHYDRATION

 It is an excessive loss of water

from the body tissue. It also
disturbs the balance of the
essential electrolyte: sodium,
potassium and chloride.
 It is also called hypersmoler
imbalance.
REHYDRATION

It is the replenishment of water

and electrolytes lost through
dehydration. It can be formed
by oral rehydration therapy
(drinking an electrolyte
solution).
ORAL REHYDRATION
THERAPHY
 It is an effective way and safe way to treat
dehydration caused by diarrhea with or without
vomiting. During diarrhea, water and essential salts
are lost from the body and must be replaced
quickly, otherwise dehydration with it’s potentially
life threatening consequences will set in.
ORAL REHYDRATION
SALTS
 It is a mixture of glucose and salts in
water. Glucose is found in the solution
that enables the intestine to absorb the
water and salts more efficiently thus
preventing or treating diarrhea.
