Introduction
Sample Size: 227 ASU Students
Conducted Study with Logistic Regression
Independent Variables: Age, Gender, School
Year, Total Games Ever Attended, State Born or
From, Favorite Sport to Watch, Favorite Sport to
Play, Hours a week playing/watching sports
Dependent Variable: ASU games attended this
school year (binary is made with ASU games
above or below the median)
Data was conducted in form of Survey by email,
telephone, and face-to-face interaction
Class/Gender..

Class, sport played, sport watched

and state are categorical.
Gender is the only Binary variable, in
which we defined as male being 1
and female 0.
Age, total games and hours watched
are continous…
Categorization of Variables..
 Broke up the United States
into 4 categories. So we define
North as 1, South as 2, West
as 3, East as 4 and
everywhere else as 5.
States..
Hawaii and Alaska are included in
west.
Literature Review
 We are basing our hypothesis on a
pilot test
 Pilot test sample – 50
 Hours/week (Total hours spend
watching or playing sports/week) is
the only significant variable with a p-
value of 0.0083.
Results of Logistic Regression
227 total observations
– 117 attended 3 or more games this year
– 110 attended less than 3 games this
year

Likelihood Ratio p-value = <.0001

-Model is significant as a whole with all
the variables
Results
Significant variables:
– AGE
p-value = .0223,
Maximum Likelihood Estimate value =
-.2073
Odds Ratio Point Estimate = .813
– Hours around sports per week
p-value = <.0001
Maximum Likelihood Estimate value = .0821
Odds Ratio Point Estimate = 1.086
What Do The Significant Variables
Mean?
Median ASU games attended,3

Age p-value .0223, with a .813 odds

ratio point estimate.

Hrsweek p-value <.0001, with a 1.086

odds ratio point estimate
What?
Age and hrsweek are only variables
that significantly effect games
attended because their p-values
were <.05.
Age .0223
Hrsweek <.0001
By How Much?
If significant you can check odds ratio
point estimate to see how many
times more likely they are going to
attend more than the median
amount of games, which in our case
is 3
Age .813
Hrsweek 1.086
