LIGHT AND SOUND

LIGHT
Light is a form of energy. Types of light:

Natural: like the Sun Artificial: like light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.

Light travels in straight lines.

Transparent ,translucent and opaque materials

Transparent: they allow light to pass through them. Translucent : they allow some light to pass through them. Opaque : they do not allow light to pass through them.

Reflection
Light shines on an object and reflects on it. Mirrors can be:

Flat: our image is reversed. Concave and convex: our image is deformed.

Refraction
Light passes from one material to another and changes direction. Lenses can be:

Convex: they concentrate the light in one point. Concave: they separate the light rays.

Colours
Light is made up of colours that we see when white light passes through a glass prism. Objects reflect the colours we see and absorb the rest.

SOUND
It is produced by vibrating objects. It travels through the air and other objects until it reaches our ears. It transmits energy from the object that produces the vibration to the object that receives it.

Properties of sound
Pitch: it allows us to distinguish high from loud sounds. Timbre: it allows us to identify who or what produced the sound. Intensity: it tells us if a sound is soft or loud.

Echo

When sound waves travel and meet an object they reflect off it and return to our ears.

Types of sound
Pleasant: water flowing in a river or a bird singing. Noise: unpleasant or irritating. If it is very intense, it can damage our health and it is called noise pollution.
