Washington, DC (April 26, 2012) MPA The Association of Magazine Media is extremely pleased that after months of painstaking work, the bipartisan efforts of Senators Joe Lieberman (I-CT), Susan Collins (R-ME), Tom Carper (D-DE), and Scott Brown (R-MA) reached a successful conclusion with yesterdays U.S. Senate passage of the 21st Century Postal Service Act of 2012. The legislation, which tackles many of the issues that threaten the Postal Services survival, is of critical importance to the magazine industry, which mails seven billion copies each year to readers across the United States and relies on an affordable and dependable national postal system. Yesterdays Senate vote is a significant first step in an orderly transition to a streamlined and financially viable Postal Service that will be capable of serving the nation for years to come. MPA President and CEO Nina Link issued the following statement: Magazines have long been called the anchor of the mailbox. With a healthy Postal Service, consumers can continue to look forward to receiving their favorite magazines in a timely and affordable way for many years to come. We sincerely thank and congratulate the Senators for their herculean efforts to put the Postal Service on a path to long term financial viability. We now look forward to working with the House of Representatives to finish the job of postal reform.
