As students entered the room, they were able to identify their group from the SmartBoard. At the start of class, students were instructed to clear all belongings from their desk except for a pencil and the lesson objective was clearly stated. Lesson handouts, including a detailed explanation of the activity, were also provided. Each group consisted of three roles: recorder, tour guide, and tourist. The recorder was required to record the directions given by the tour guide as well as the results of the experiment. The tour guide was required to give detailed and precise directions to the tourist on how to move a shape from position 1 on a coordinate plane to position 2. Lastly, the tourist was required to follow the directions from the tour guide in order to move the shape to its final position. Students rotated clockwise within the group in order to have the opportunity to play each role. The purpose of the lesson was for students to experiment with different types transformations such as translations, reflections, and rotations. At the conclusion of the experiment,

students were required to identify all action verbs used to move the shapes from their starting position to ending position. After each group finished, Kristin conducted a whole class discussion on transformations. She provided students with class notes and additional examples. She discussed how the action verbs used during the activity can help with the identification of each type of transformation. Homework was assigned to the class that consisted of 6 questions focusing on indentifying and graphing transformations. The homework will be checked by Kristin in order to assess student understanding of the concept. It is evident that Kristin spent a great amount of time creating and planning for this lesson. She provided students with detailed handouts of the class activity, class notes for future reference, and incorporated the use of technology. Students were engaged and on task throughout the activity and class discussion. Overall, the lesson was a success and I hope to be able to use this activity in the future.
