Hotel industry I. Overview One of the fastest growing economy of our time is the hotel industry.

T he hotel industry alone is a multi-billion dollar and growing enterprise. It is exciting, never boring and offer unlimited opportunities. It is diverse enough for people to work in different areas of interest and still be employed in the hotel industry. This trend is not just in the Philippines but also globally. Hotel concept According to common law: Hotel - Is a place where tourists stops, cease to travelers and becom e customers. - is an establishment that provides lodging paid on a short-term basis. The provision of basic accommodation, in times past, consist ing only of a room with a bed, a cupboard, a small table and a wash stand has largely been replaced by rooms with modern facilities , including en-suite bathrooms and air condit ioning or climate control. Motel concept Motel - initially the term was meant for local motorists and foreign tourists travelling by road. They serve the needs and re quirements of these travelers and meeting their demand for transit and accommodation. Some of the important services o ffered by the motels are parking, garage facilities, acco mmodation and restaurant facilities. Origin of the word Hotel Before 1760, people used to go to inns for lunch, dinner, etc. It was t he place where families used to host their guests. Inn owners used to provide l odging and boarding facility service to their guests. The word Hostel was used then it was called hostelier which means head of unit or th e place. The word hotel was originally in England officially from 1760. The word hotel is derived from the French htel (coming from hte meaning host), whi ch referred to a French version of a townhouse or any other building seeing freq uent visitors, rather than a place offering accommodation. They replaced the 's' found in the earlier hostel spelling, which over time took on a new, but closel y related meaning.
