Ben Thayer has worked at St. Augustine Cathedral School as a substitute teacher during the last few school years. Beyond this service to the school, I have known Mr. Thayer since he was in high school. Throughout the years he has returned to visit the school and has volunteered to help in a number of ways As a substitute teacher, Ben Thayer provided students with a structured, pleasant, enriching experience, working to deliver the curriculum as prescribed by the classroom teacher. Mr. Thayer used his outstanding teaching skills to understand the progress and the needs of any given group of students, and to change course as necessary during the school day. His classroom management skills were excellent, first establishing a relationship with students and then setting high expectations for them. Students responded well to Mr. Thayers presence, and teachers were pleased with the work completed upon their return to the classroom. Ben Thayer is a genuinely caring person, interested in the well-being of those around him. It is wonderful to see this attitude in his work with students and with colleagues. Ben is a professional, with exceptional communication skills and outstanding interpersonal skills. Ben works to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of all students in attendance on any given day. Mr. Thayer is a wondeful teacher. His attitude and enthusiasm drive him serve the students well. I support his hopes and his plans for a future in the field of teaching.
