M1 Stuff to remember for the exam Make sure to underline keywords, e.g: find the deceleration of an object.

. When asked to give the deceleration of an object, make sure to GIVE the DECELERATION of the object, not the acceleration. How have you used the info that the string is inextensible? Accelerations of A and B, and of the whole system, are equal. Be aware of the fact that rods/planks can be either uniform (gravity acts at centre) or non uniform (acts elsewhere, which you normally have to find, or are given). In vectors, make sure to pay special attention to the ts, these can often be miswritten and result in an incorrect answer. Area of a triangle (doesnt have to be right angled, e.g: on a speed-time graph) is 1/2xbxh. Is also xaxbxsinc When resolving forces, and you have a resultant force (R), and force x going diagonally left and force y going diagonally right, dont write: R+x-Y=o when trying to find x, because R is the resultant force of x and y! X and y add together to make R! So you would write: R=x+Y 1 Tonne = 1000kg. Always convert tonnes to Kg. Weight = mg, weight is in newtons. When finding weight, use mg as usual, and as your final answer leave it in newtons. I.e: m x 9.8 =... Force exerted on a pulley by string: F = 2Tcos[(90-a)/2]

When asked to find the speed of a vector, you find the magnitude using Pythagoras. When asked to find the velocity in terms of i and j, make sure to give units at end too (e.g: km h-1)
