SECTION-B POPULATION
The population projection figures in this issue are based on the results of the May 2007
and November 2007 National population and Housing Census of Ethiopia. Therefore, the
projected figures for the year 2010 become 79,455,634 of which 40,083,810 are males and
39,371,824 are females. Urban areas refer to all capitals of regions, zones and weredas, and it
also includes localities with urban kebeles whose inhabitants are primarily engaged in nonagricultural activities.

Except in Affar and Somali in all other regions the census was carried out in May, 2007.
The census for Affar and Somali regions were under taken in November 2007. The total
population size of Affar and that of country total include the estimated population of eight rural
kebeles (21,410) in Elidar wereda (Affar Region). The projected population size is calculated
base on the total counted population figures found at the census date.
