The Field Situation
- During the Friday called "Our next rendezvous, Damascus," tens of thousands of demonstrators broke out in Syria, demanding the overthrow of the regime.(4) - Various demonstrations were organized in several areas of Idlib, including Binnish, Hass and Sarja, in addition to Jisr Ash Shoghour, Jabal Al-Zawiya and Ariha.(2) - According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, demonstrations brook out in Daraa's several districts, during which the Assad troops fired on demonstrators, several of whom were wounded in Inkhel.(4) - Hama and its countryside witnessed thousands of demonstrations.(4) - A number demonstrations were also staged in several neighborhoods of Damascus and in a many districts of Rif Dimashq.(4) - For the second consecutive week, Aleppo came on the scene of Friday demonstrations, tens of thousands of demonstrators broke out, especially in the neighborhoods of Salaheddine, Al-Sha'aar, Bustan Al-Qasr, as well as the towns of Manbej, Izaz and Al-Bab in the countryside.(1)(4) - Heavy security presence in several areas of the coastal city of Latakia, including the campus of Tishreen University, to prevent any demonstrations.

- Three people were killed by a roadside bomb targeting a bus on the road to the Damascus International Airport.(1)(4) - Al-Assad's armored vehicles stormed the neighborhood of Barzeh amid gunfire and mass arrests,

with columns of smoke rising in the Damascus neighborhoods of Basatin Barzeh and Al-Qaboun near the Air Force intelligence premises, where explosions of missiles were heard.(1)(2)(4) - Al-Assad's forces publicly executed three people in Deir Al-Zour's Al-Qosour neighborhood, including two from the village of Al-Kharita.(2)(4) - Security forces forcibly broke up a sit-in staged by dozens of lawyers in the palace of justice in Aleppo, calling for the release of political prisoners. The forces detained a number of the protesters.(1)(2) - Spokesman for Union of the Revolution Coordination Committees said that Al-Atareb area is still exposed to continuous bombardment for the fifth successive day, killing at least six people, amid massive exodus from Aleppo's countryside.(1)

The Military Situation


- The military defector colonel Khalid Yousuf AlHamood, a commander in the Free Syrian Army (FSA), said some 203 elements from Al-Assad's forces, including three officers in the Damascus's countryside area of Al-Qatifa, have defected to the FSA. Clashes erupted between the defectors and the government forces, killing five defectors, while the rest managed to escape with their equipment to join the FSA.(1)(2)(4) - Al-Assad's forces continued shelling the Homs city of Al-Rastan, with shells crashing into the town at the rate of "one a minute" in an attempt to break into it.

The Internal Situation


- The Israeli Haaretz says that senior Syrian officials, including Al-Assad's brother in law Asif Shawkat, chief of intelligence services, had been an exposed to an attempt on their lives through poisoning their food, but they all survived.(2)(6)

- Burhan Ghalyoun, who has recently resigned as head of the Syrian National Council (SNC), described what is going on in Al-Houla as a massacre, which is a type of genocide, which comes as part of a systematic policy to break the will of the Syrian people, adding that the world should not stand idly towards such a massacre.

Activities of Civil Organizations


- The International Islamic Relief Organization signed agreements with a number of Lebanese hospitals within the activities of the Organization to provide humanitarian aid to the Syrian refugees.(1)

Arab Political Stances


- The Lebanese opposition March 14 Alliance accused the Assad regime of trying to export his crisis to Lebanon. Former Lebanese prime minister Fouad AlSaniora said that Al-Assad's regime is working out a plan "to destabilize Lebanon and its regime, democracy and institutions in order to pounce on it.(2)
