News, Announcements and Updates for Friendship House Teachers

Class Attendance Starts Strong

Friendship House summer class attendance started very strong with all classes in session this last week. Please remember to ask your students to sign in for your class so were sure to have a record of all students coming to Friendship House (or Martin Luther Chapel where a Wednesday class is held).

Tutoring Responds to Student Need

Most teachers know we started piloting with tutoring conversation partners, actually1 the second half of fall semester. We increased our experience with it during winter/spring semester. As summer semester begins, we have nearly 50 students requesting this service. Thanks to a great response by many English speakers, 24 volunteers agreed to meet with students in this individualized format. We offer tutoring because in exit interviews with departing students, they consistently asked for this kind of language support. Formal, professional tutoring costs about $20 per hour for Internationals. We will keep monitoring this new service. If you have questions or suggestions about tutoring, please feel free to share them. If you have someone youd like to suggest as a tutor, please let me know.

Student Baptisms
Five Friendship House International students were led by the Spirit to become baptized in recent weeks. All of these students have requested that public knowledge of their baptisms be limited for the time being. We thank God for His merciful work in and through our students. We also thank Him for their teachers.

Fall Semester Schedule

Most teachers have already let me know if they plan to teach this fall. Some are still pondering whether to teach, or whether to teach English conversation or Bible study. Please keep these colleagues in your prayers. We have many new avenues we are using to increase awareness among the International student community about Friendship House classes.
