Assessment
Informal observation of behavior, use of colorblocking technique, and use of elements when discussing work. Students complete behavior self-eval.

Activities/Task
1. Have students choose and sit by a partner. 2. Discuss the elements of art (can students name any of the elements? give examples?) 3. Discuss the word collaboration (have students heard this work before?) 4. Explain that students will be collaborating and using a color-blocking technique to decorate the classroom privacy screens. 5. Model steps for color-blocking (point out elements of art: masking tape lines create shapes that will be filled with color. You can create texture with your brush strokes. When the tape is removed, the area underneath is the negative space. Etc.) 6. Allow students time to work. 7. After students clean-up, have them fill out a self-eval. 8. After the paint has dried (next day?) have students remove tape and share designs. Review how the elements of art are present in the designs. Discuss what benefits and challenges there were with collaborating.
