Explorer Project

Create an Explorer File to share with your classmates and others in our school. See the example file, consult with your research buddy, and follow the guidelines below. Be prepared to present your file to your fellow students!

Map (10pts.)

Complete a map of the route(s) used. The map needs to include areas explored along with landforms encountered. Map should have: o Correct title and labels o Neat and legible o Correctly depicted and labeled landforms o Accurate route of exploration o Map Key o Correct spelling Hand-drawn and colored or a printed/photocopied picture with source listed. Neatly written on a 4 x 6 card. Must have: o Explorer name o Date of most important voyage or exploration o Name of country he explored for o 1 well-written sentence about why he is famous Explorers name written in large, neat letters (about 1 tall). Choose one of the following formats: o Newspaper Article (Write an article about the explorer for a fictional newspaper in the 1500s) o Explorers Journal (Write at least 2 entries pretending you are the explorer) o Comic Strip (at least 6 frames with sentences and color) o Report (2-3 well written paragraphs) o Crossword Puzzle (at least 20 relevant words and appropriate clues about the explorer) Choice piece must have neat appearance (neatly written or typed), complete sentences, and correct spelling and grammar. The information in the choice piece should include: Purpose of exploration Country of origin or sponsor Land and people encountered Problems encountered and solutions used Results of exploration (personally and for country) Accurate information
