Hey---the end of the year is fast approaching. If you need library time, you need to schedule it soon. We will be closing Monday, May 7. All library books will be due on Friday, May 4. We begin collecting student textbooks on Tuesday, May 8. That means the computers will be unavailable as well. Soif you have a project that needs library or computer access, now is the time to get on the schedule! Stop by any time next week and sign up! REQUEST FROM MEGHAN MARTINEZ: Did you receive a Jeopardy-type game in a large white cardboard box from Meghan before she went on maternity leave? Please get in touch with her immediately at X530507. (Shes blaming it on pregnancy-related memory loss!) Have you been following the out-of-control video called Kony 2012? If so, this would be a great time to talk about checking sources, social media, the complexity of world politics, emotional response vs. analytical action, and many other topics. Most of what Im seeing is actually calling this phenomenon into question, regarding money (donations vs. expenditures), timeliness, and effectiveness. A great teaching moment if ever there was one! Im still looking to borrow a VHS to DVD conversion machine, if youve got one. It would be greatly appreciated! What are you doing with your free afternoon? Im going golfing! Students must have ID cards to check out up to 4 library books for a 2 week period. Please come at the beginning of the period. These are the library standards which are presented on each visit to the library. 1. Students Access Information Students access information by applying their knowledge of the organization of libraries, print materials, digital media, and other sources. 2. Students Evaluate Information Students evaluate and analyze information to determine appropriateness in addressing the scope of inquiry. 3. Students Use Information Students organize, synthesize, create and communicate information. 4. Students Integrate Information Literacy Skills into All Areas of Learning Students independently pursue information to become life-long learners.
