The Importance of English

We now live in an era where global communication is not only popular but also essential. Everyone can easily use the internet to chat or talk to people from anywhere in the world; may it be for business or for pleasure. Consequently, this made language an issue. Suddenly, language barrier has become a big problem. Expressing our thoughts can only be done by speech or writing, it may be in the form of a song, a poem or even contracts. The medium of communication may differ in many ways but the efficacy of global communication can only be assured if one has mastered the universal language which is English. With the new technology and globalization comes the large influx of people studying English, it being the universal language. In education, English as the universal language gives all subjects from around the world uniformity of terms. Anywhere in the world, the terms algebra, geometry or calculus bear the same meaning. Translating technical terms in different languages would just be arduous, especially now that exchange students or studying abroad has become a trend among young students. In business, most companies require their applicants to master the English language, primarily because isolationism in economics has been declared ineffective, giving rise to multi-national companies. Global trade is the trend. Therefore, an important quality for a good employee is to be fluent in English to be able to interact with business partners or clients from around the globe. In our daily dealings, encounter with English is inevitable. The media provides us the information in English because they have to cater to the various. In order to get a grasp with the daily news and entertainment, one must have a good command of the English language.
