Curriculum and Instruction

Early College of Education High School The SSLA Early College of Education High School curriculum will utilize a combination of traditional in-class courses, GA Virtual School courses, and virtual courses via the Open Educational Resource Commons. All coursework will be aligned with the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (including the recommended Frameworks as provided) and will emphasize the GADOE Teaching as a Profession Career Pathway. All other GADOE Career Pathway options (such as Broadcasting/TV, Marketing, Performance/Fine Arts, Foreign Language, Law and Justice, etc.) will be grounded within the Teaching as a Profession framework. Because our ultimate goal is to increase BOTH high school graduation rates and college completion rates for African American, Latino, and low-income, first generation college students, every SSLA graduateno matter what their GADOE Career Pathway of choicewill exit high school with a pedagogical framework for their career choice and two full years of college credits. In addition to their traditional course offerings, all incoming 9th graders will complete the GADOE prescribed Intro to Teaching course as an elective. Prior to registering courses in grades 10, 11, and 12, all students will work with their career counselor, academic counselor, and partnering college/university COE faculty to determine which academic electives best fit their respective prescribed GADOE Career Pathways. The following graphic depicts a sample graduation path for an entering freshman who has selected the Law and Justice Career Pathway:
