Prof. M. Mndez Assessment: The adventures of Huckleberry Finn Jos Javier Casas August 29, 2011

1. Compare and contrast the characters of Huck and Tom. Support your analysis of each character with specified references to the novel. 2. What is Mark Twains attitude toward religion in Huckleberry Finn. Use specific examples from the novel to support your answer. 3. How does Jims character developed in the novel? How does the readers perception of him change? How does Mark Twain accomplish this? I think that at the beginning of the story Jim was a superstitious fanatic kind of man, but later on, when the story unfolds we can see an adult that is a friend and a kind of father to Huck. At first glance we might see in Jim a man who is just a superstitious stuff guru but getting to know him better it is wise to say that he kind of know some stuff about nature. Mark Twain manage to turn around the readers perception of this character by showing us his maturity in every event that happens around him. 4. Analyze Twains satire of small town life in Huckleberry Finn. What aspects of small town life does he particularly make fun of? Are there any aspects of small town life that he does not satirize? Mark Twain satirizes every aspect of the civilized world around Huck. Specially how it related to a society where there are slaves. There cannot be such thing as a civilized world in a place where there is such atrocity. Much of the satire that occurs in the novel are around Huck. Huck is always trying to avoid his civilization because it defies his logic.

5. Discuss life on the raft before the appearance of Duke and King characterizes it best? How does it defer from life ashore? I can see the life in the raft as the place where both, Jim and Huck finally finds a place where they are at peace. In the raft they are reaching the freedom that they so much wanted. Huck is getting free from his abusing father and Jim because he was a slave.
