METAPHORICAL EXTENSION

A metaphor is use of a word in other meaning. It means that a word may have literal meanings (metaphorical extension). We should know different basic to describe the relationship of the meaning of a word that has similarities. There another definition based on: 1. Shakespeare said that metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase that ordinarily designates one thing is used to designate another, thus making an implicit comparison, as in a sea of troubles or All the world's a stage (figure of speech in which a word or phrase that usually interprets one things is used to interpret another) 2. Neal Gabler said that metaphor is One thing conceived as representing another; a symbol: Hollywood has always been an irresistible, prefabricated metaphor for the crass, the materialistic, the shallow, and the craven (one thing that is showed as representing another word)

In a metaphor, explained comparison is made between two non-similar things, which actually have something important in common between them. Often people seem to confuse metaphors with similes and vice versa. But it is important to remember, that a metaphor is similar to a simile. For example: The word fire Normally means burning that produces light and heat Metaphorically means something that is hot, a problem or The use of metaphors is based on the rules among language speakers, so it will sound strange. It means that if we didnt use to using metaphors in our conversation it will be strange because the meaning of metaphorical is unreal. And it will be complicated if we didnt understand well. So, if we want to understand it well it we have to know how it is used in certain aspect or society that metaphor.

For example: Life is a journey It means that the Purposes of life are destinations, means are routes, difficulties are obstacles, counselors are guides, achievements are landmarks, and choices are crossroads.
