3G Drive Test | Dharmendra Kr. Singh

Dear Friends, I am giving you simply way to Drive Test: Here I am not giving you full theory of Drive Test but giving you only how to do Drive in 3G. When you are new employee of any RF Company then you have to do work with a Team. All person have his superior. But For Drive Test Engineer two Main Superior for his work and who will help you in field as well as kit related issues. You Main Superior on your Project: Project Manager Team Leader Optimizer Co-ordinator In field you are consulted with Your Co-ordinator & Optimizer. Works of Co-ordinator:He will give you plan (Site Id,Cell id etc) He will take status of your site Any field related issues of Sites etc. Works Of Optimizer:Optimizer have many roles in RF.But for field Engineer (DT),He will optimize you site (e.g-Final Tilt,Final Orientation,Scrambling Code etc.) Optimizer Maintain Kpi (Keep Performance Index) ,Cluster Optimization etc.

Now I have giving you some information that how do work in RF(Drive Test) or How to Start Work in Drive Test. Take all important kit with all related software from officeFor Drive Test we need tools:A)Drive test tools(Tems,Nemo,Probe etc)

B)Mobile (For TEMS 10 W995,For Probe 2.2,2.3 using U120e etc.) C)Testing Sim D)GPS-72 Or Mouse GPS E)Dongle of related tool Kit F)Compass G)Measuring Tape H)Hub I)Inverter For connecting of Mobile from Laptop we use Data Cable & For Connecting Hand GPS(e.g-GPS-72,70) we use baffo cable When u have to use Tems tool for Drive Test then first install the Tems software. STEPS FOR INSTALLING TEMS 10.0.5 SOFTWARE

1-First install .Net fx 35& Win installer3.1 in your PC

After installation of this install the Tems 10.0.5 Software. 2-After installing TEMS, install the driver of Dongle, Mobile phone, and GPS connecting the equipment in different ports. Baffo cable by

3-Dongle driver is automatically install in your PC just when you connect in your PC. 4-But for Mobile and Beffo cable driver, you have to give the path of the driver. 5-After installing device drivers, Copy and Paste above patch files in

C:\Program Files\Ericsson\TEMS Products\TEMS Investigation\Application Folder.

6-Now open the TEMS window from. My Documents\TEMS Product Files\TEMS Investigation 10.0.5\Workspaces after connecting the Dongle. In workspaces folder you have to open Investigation WCDMA. When your Dongle ,Mobile And GPS connected then Now u r ready to go for Drive Test. 7-After install tems install Mapinfo or MCOM in your Laptop for Check the Site. NOW U R READY TO GO FOR DRIVE TEST:After this process first call to your Cab Driver if you have Plan given by Co-Ordinator. Before Going to Site you should have Updated MIPT or Cell file Your First Work that if you have plan which is given by your Co-Ordinator then search your Site ID or Site Name in Map Info using CTRL+F. You can see you site Name or Place where you have to go in Map info then ask your Cab driver to go on that place or near by your site. If you reached near your site then connect your Laptop (Tems Kit),if u have handGPS then you can go to the given site after putting Lat./Long. In HandGPS.if you have no Hand GPS then you have to connect the Full Kit. PROCESS FOR USING MAPINFO:After Install the Map info ,open your Mapinfo & Put Updated MIPT of Sites and Vector(E.gRoads,Water,Major roads,Highway etc.) You Can Operate Mapinfo from this process:Open MIPT Click any one( MIPT CELL,MIPT CHNL)open Desktop(Where MIPT )----->Open MIPT----Select all-- (Mipt cell, mipt chnl etc.) ---click on open button---again Open and --load the vector also. After this you can save this Mapinfo on Laptop Desktop.

For Finding the Site in MIPT or Mapinfo put Ctrl+F ,when you will put this button then we will see search table(Mipt site or Mipt Chnl)-in down side column --site select ---put site idok When you will find the site then click on the sector through (I) button which is shown in right side of mapinfo.

For checking the orientation ,lat/long you can use this. You already installed the TEMS software also but it will not show on your desktop then you Have to open Tems from this process:-For open the Tems first put Dongle on the Laptop after that:Start button---all programs---ASCOM----Tems products-----Tems investigation 10.0.5 data collection. Now your Tems is open after that from down side in Tems, you click any one (E.g-Map etc.)and cut all the window which is showing here. After cut all the window ,Go to the presentation------WCDMA serving /Active set+Negibour for MS1 (For First Mobile) for seeing the values of RSCP,Ec/No etc. Same process we will do for another Mobile but for the second mobile you have to change you properties of this window(Right Click on window which is for 2nd mobile----propeties--Mobile-----MS2----ok Now you arrange these window in one corner for RSCP and Ec/No. Now again we have have to go presentation (for HSDPA)-------WCDMA----data services----HSDPA Analysis Now again we have to go Presentation (For HSUPA)-----WCDMA----data services---HSUPA Analysis Now again we have to go Presentation (For Map)-----Positioning------click on Map---then the Map window will show After this we put Vector (Roads, highway,Water etc) and MIPT through layer control. After this arrange all this window in proper manner as shown in figure

After this arrangement go to the File----Save work space as-----name---Save it on Desktop. Before going to site you Check Have you Updated Mipt or cell file or not? Have you All the required kit for Drive test or not? After Checking this we go to the Site with the help of Connecting TEMS kit or Help of Hand GPS. When you reached at the site then first work I have to do------Physical Audit of the site:- In physical audit we have to do--a)Tower Ht. b)GSM ht. c)Obs. Orientation d)Antenna port e)Obs Tilt After checking this call to our optimizer for Final Tilt and Final orientation,Optimizer will ask to you GSM ht. ,Obs.Orientation & Obs. Tilt then tell him every thing. After that optimizer will give you Final Orientation & Final Tilt.As said by optimizer you told to the Riggar to change this tilt & orientation if required.

After completed your physical optimization connect both mobile (MS1 & MS2),GPS,Dongle through Laptop after that open your TEMS. Without Dongle you can not open TEMS. If your mobile both mobile is charging ,it means your mobile is connected to the laptop,In the Tems Window Check right (Down) Side corner,it will show in red colour (4 if u connected 2 mobile & 1 for GPS).After that connect mobile & GPS though connecting button which is already showing on the upper green coloue button.Connet all the devices. If your all devices connected then your down side all red colour button becomes Green. 3.1 CONNECTION PROCEDURE: In order to connect the Drive test equipment also called kit the following procedure should be followed. Connect the USB cables to the TEMS test phones.. Connect the other end of the USB cables to USB ports on the laptop.

Connect the GPS to the laptop, either via USB or via serial port. Insert the Dongle into a USB port.

Note*: If the laptop does not have a sufficient number of USB cables then a 1x4 USB multiplexer may be used.

Switch on the laptop and open Investigation 10.0.5 The tab named Control & Configuration contains a window called Port Identification Click on Identify equipment, a list of the connected equipment will be displayed. Ensure that all the required equipment is displayed. Click on connect all, this will cause the red mark against the equipment to turn green. The tab named Overview contains the basic data to be monitored, including radio parameters such as Ec/No, RSCP, etc. The same tab also contains information about the current channel being used such a CGI, timeslot, ARFCN, etc. Click on logfiles and scroll down to recording properties, here give the path where the logfiles have to be recorded. Clicking on the record button will allow the data to be recorded into the desired path.

In Idea 3g We have to do Two Types of Drive Test:- Static Drive Dynamic Drive

STATIC DRIVE TEST:In static Drive test we have to go one by one in each sector & we choose better Level(RSCP & Ec/No),after that we start static drive.Static Drive Means without Moving in sector we have to do our work. Our main Work in Static Drive is--

a)3G to 3G Voice call b)3G to 2G Voice call(Both mobile should be connected with TEMS) c)2G to 3G voice call(Both mobile should be connected with TEMS) d)3G to 3G Video call(Both mobile should be connected with TEMS) e)HSDPA analysis(HTTP DOWNLOADING)e.g-Directly from any server f)HSUPA analysis (HTTP UPLOADING)e.g-Directly in Gmail or yahoo etc. g)FTP DOWNLOAD(Means download from your (Idea)server h)FTP UPLOAD(Means upload in idea Server only) i)SMS(3g to 3g) j)Ping Server IP Address For Idea:

How to do PING? For Ping ,we have to go start button in the Laptop then click on Run put CMD in open then press Enter button. When you will press enter button the one black window will open,in this window we have to write here after the already written showing letter Ping_192.168.100.12 (after that press Enter Button)

When you will press enter button then it will will success rate ,it success rate should not be less than 100% & its value as not more than 150. After finishing this process we press on Prnt Scrn button --paint---ctrl v---Ctrl S Save this ping value at suitable place. All this process I have to do in Each and every Sector.

DYNAMIC DRIVE TEST:In the dynamic drive test we have to move the each sector With kit connect and record its values of RSCP & Ec/No.The Value of RSCP & Ec/No should be good.

In dynamic Drive test we have to test Coverage of all the sectors in Long call and short call.

Long Call:- Long call means continuous call on testing number Short Call:-It means after a particular time its call will disconnect again its will go on testing no. this process will repeat . For Short call we can make a scenario also---Control----Command sequence---edit-----voice /video--click on + button---dial--Phone no-(*69)---duration---30 Sec After that for no. of exec.-change this value more than 1000.

Just like this you have to cover each & every sector just like this as shown in above figure. We have to take handover of another site.

Handover:In 3G there are mainly three types of handover.

Soft Handover Softer Handover Hard Handover

This document has entailed the basics of conducting a drive test. The different modes, types and procedures used to carry out a drive test are defined above. It should be remembered that these are basic guidelines that should be followed; actual procedure depends on the customer and task requirement. How to Lock WCDMA in Laptop:

This type of mark will show on the top of the TEMS ,From that place you can lock WCDMA or GSM mode.

This is Recoding button for start the recoring of Log files.

This will show on the top of the MAP window, this is layer control from here you can put site ,vector etc. to show in the TEMS MAP window.

This is connecting button for connect the mobile,GPS etc. READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE START THE DYNAMIC DRIVE TEST: Performing Drive Test:

Take all the necessary information initially required to reach up-to the place where the drive test has to be performed. Then after, connect the kit, following the procedure given above. Go to the logfile icon before connecting the equipments by clicking Connect All icon. Click on the Recording Properties option. Then Browse the place where you want to get the logfiles recorded. Tick Quick logging, Swap files after reaching messages, Quick filemark and also assign nos of samples you want in one logfile by providing any numerical value to the option, Swap files aster reaching messages eg: 20,000 or 40,000. Clear History buffer at the start of the new logfile should be un-tick. Click O.K.

Then click on the red colored icon on the top of the page so as to start the recording. You can see the samples getting collected by an indication at the bottom of the page. As soon as the GPS gets acquired, you can see the sample on the Map Window. Note: Samples can be recorded only after clicking Start icon though, the samples can be seen on the Map Window getting collected but will not be saved in the location until, Start recording icon is clicked. Record the logfiles properly and then after completion of he drive click on Stop recording and then disconnect all equipments from the laptop by clicking Disconnect all option. Then after disconnect every equipment, physically attached to the laptop, manually. After recording, logfiles are ready to be Exported and making presentation plots for the various parameters like RSCP Level, Ec/No,SC,CELL ID etc.. *Key points to be noted down while performing drive: 1) Keep an eye on the TEMS investigation windows. 2) Notice for any disconnection of the equipments attached to the laptop.

3) Audio Indication should also be active during the drive and listen to it carefully. 4) Have an eye on RSCP, Ec/No, & SCwindow, etc. so that, if they get worsen, you can deduce for them from the various other parameters which are displayed on TEMS investigation windows. 5) Suppose the call gets dropped, get stopped at the place. Come back for few dist. And then try to make a call again. As soon as the call gets established, move forward again. Recording should be made active for all the time. 6) Dont pause or stop the recording in between the drive, if the halt duration is small.

7) While going to and fro from the same route, record the logfiles separately for the routes. To analyze the logfiles for the particular path from the presentation plots, it is required to have logfiles for either direction, seperately. EXPORT THE LOG FILES AFTER FINISHING THE DRIVE TEST:

Log file--Export Log file----add order--format change put---(map info tab file)-set up click---WCDMA---as CPICH RSCP---click on(>) button --ok----browse file click(Go to the log file where you saved at the time of drive)--select all log files----open---merge--ok---start button click----close after finishing the success. After finishing the export it will show in your log files. You can open it in Mapinfo and u can analyse your log files.

Introduction to the basic functions of the independent UE test mode

Being developed on the basis of Huawei commercial UE platforms, such as U626, U636, U1205, U1307,U1251,U6100 and U120e, this mode provides powerful functions and is easy to use. This mode supports the network of the WCDMA, GSM, and GPRS, such as the U626, U636, and U535, but does not support the EDGE. This mode can be used as the terminal for the drive test. This mode supports the function of locking a UARFCN or a scrambling code of a WCDMA network. ::::: Introduction

to the Interface of the Probe::::::

Hardware configuration:
The drop-down list shows multiple terminals. Terminals that support the GSM or GPRS test but do not support the EDGE test are Huawei U626, U636, U1251 and U535. Terminals that support the GSM, GPRS or EDGE test are Huawei E620, E630 card, U120E, U1205,U1307 and U6100. Huawei recommends that Huawei U120E or U1205 be used as terminal. Note: The U120e/U6100 supports the 900/1800/1900 frequency band, and the U1205 supports the 850/1800/1900 frequency band.

You need to set Modem Port for the PS and SMS test.

Event setting:

Event Settings enables you to set the icon shape of an event, set whether to display this event on a map or on the event list, and whether to provide audio indication for this event. Note: This version does not support the function of customizing events.

Set the methods as shown in below figure for recording the time of log data packets, synchronizing the PC time to the GPS time, replaying events, and saving test routes in .tab files in real time, and enables you to specify the default directory for saving logfiles.

By setting test scenario, you can select test plans and set the properties of test items for managing over different test devices. You need to set the test plans for different devices, for example, setting a plan for a UE, or a scanner.

Parameters for Voice Call:

1.1 Call type: 1.2 Continuous: If the call setup failure, call drop or call hang-up does not occur, the call continues. If the call setup failure, call drop or call hang-up occurs, the Probe waits for one call interval to originate another call. Call by call: The call terminates after the predefined call duration time and call interval. The Probe repeats calling as many times as the number predefined by count mode.

1.2 Setup time: indicates the maximum time for call setup. If the call is not successfully set up in the predefined time, the call is regarded as having failed. 1.3 Call duration: indicates the duration of a call, from call setup to call release. Call duration applies to only the interval call. 1.4 Call interval: indicates the interval between two calls, from the disconnection of the last call to the setup of the next call.

1.5 Exceptional interval: indicates the period between the call drop and the setup of the next call. 1.6 Count mode: indicates whether the number of calls is limited. If the value is finite, you can infer that the number of calls is limited. If the value is infinite, you can infer that the number of calls is unlimited. 1.7 Call Start Mode: indicates the mode in which a test terminal makes a call. The values of this parameter is Idle (default value), Waitforcallcomplete, and Unlimited. When this parameter is set to Idle, MAX Wait Time (s) can be set.

During video call test, the calling terminal and called terminal must support the video phone function.

Parameters for PING:

2.1 IP: indicates the destination IP address. 2.2 Packet size: indicates the size of a PING packet. The packet size affects the results of PING time delay. The default value is 32 bytes. During the test of PING time, set the value according to the size predefined by the test plan. If the packet size is not specified, use the default value. 2.3 Fragment flag

2.4 Test control mode: The default mode is Test by Count. 2.5 PING count: You can set the PING count when Test by Count is selected. 2.6 Test interval: indicates the period between the end of one PING test and the start of the next one.

Parameters for FTP Upload/FTP Download:

3.1 Port: indicates the port number of the target server. The default number is 21. 3.2 User and password: indicates the name and password of the user that logs in to the destination server. 3.3 Remote file: indicates the name of the file that is uploaded or downloaded to the specified directory of the target server. The format of the name is: ftp:// + IP address + "/ " + file name (including the file path), for example, 3.4 Local file: indicates the full path of the source file or the local path for storing the file downloaded. 3.5 Multitask count: indicates the number of FTP tests. 3.6 Test interval: indicates the interval between two upload or download tests. 3.8 FTP count: indicates the total number of the FTP tests 3.8 Disconnection...: indicates whether to deactivate the data connection.

Keep connected:

After the target files are downloaded completely, the Probe does not conduct the PDP deactivation while maintaining the RRC connection. After an interval time, the Probe initiates the next FTP download.

Disconnected by time:

The period for the PDP deactivation is represented by the Valid FTP Duration parameter. The Probe performs the PDP deactivation based on the

period. If the target files are not downloaded completely within the predefined time, the download result shows Timeout, and the download task is regarded as failed. The Probe initiates another PDP deactivation in the next download task.

Disconnected After transfer completed: The Probe performs the PDP deactivation
each time when the file download is complete.

3.9 Dial Type: indicates the dialing type, such as RAS or NDIS (used for data card). 3.10 User name for dial-up setup 3.11 Password for dial-up setup 3.12 Access number for dial-up setup

PARAMETERS FOR HTTP:::: 4.1URL: indicates the destination HTTP address of the server.
4.2 Port: indicates the HTTP serving port. The default value is 80.

4.3 Control mode: indicates the HTTP control mode. The mode can be set to either Test by Time or Test by Count. 4.4 Test interval: indicates the interval between two HTTP tests. The test interval takes effect only when the HTTP test mode is set to Test by Time. 4.5 HTTP count: indicates the total number of HTTP tests. Displaying the PSC, RSCP, and Ec/Io information about active sets, monitor sets, and detected sets When a UE is idle, the cell scrambling code in the active set is the current cell that the UE camps on.

Precautions for Test Through the GENEX Probe: Before test: Before conducting a test, ensure that the test UEs, SIM cards, GPS, and
computer are all in a normal state. For an important test, check all the test devices on the previous day and ensure that the devices are intact and that the account balance can meet the test requirements.Specify the test objective and test area, plan the test track, and update the BTS information to improve the test efficiency. The version of the GENEX Probe must be the latest. If you are not sure whether the version is the latest, contact the project

leader.Ensure that test UEs Call waiting service is not available, you can choose UE Setting > Call settings > Call waiting>Off.When connecting the devices during the test, ensure that the devices are properly placed. Check the computer and the test terminals to ensure that they are properly connected. Moreover, ensure that the connection cables are naturally curved and that the signals received by each UE are not blocked by your body or other objects.

During test: Monitor and observer the test at any time. When an exception occurs
in the software, for example, the system prompts that a device is disconnected, check whether the device can be automatically connected. If the device cannot be automatically connected within 10 seconds, it is suggested that you stop the test and reconnect the device. Then, find and record the causes.Save the test files. The names of the test files must be normative. By default, the test files are named after the test start time. If the names of the test files contain more information, the subsequent data analysis and archiving becomes easy. For example, the following name can be used: GENEX_PROBE 20092315405Cluster2.gen.If you want to stop the test for a long time, stop the corresponding test task and disable the connection. When a test file is automatically divided, the size of each sub-file cannot be excessively small (such as 5 MB or 10 MB) because excessively small size results in that 20 to 30 sub-files are generated in each cluster. Thus, searching for the test data during data analysis becomes difficult, which increases the workload of data analysis engineers. If exceptions occur continuously, such as poor coverage around the BTS, continuous call drops, handover failures, and unavailable call setup, record the exceptions and observe the radio environment. After the test is complete, submit the records and test data to data analysis engineers. The records and test data can help the engineers to improve the analysis efficiency. When the test ends, stop the test plan by hand first and then disable the connection. In this way, the integrity of the test data can be ensured. Although the GENEX Probe or GENEX Assistant provides several mechanisms for handling signaling exceptions, not all the signaling exceptions can be identified by the GENEX Probe or GENEX Assistant because the data analysis performed by the GENEX Probe or GENEX Assistant totally depends on the signaling messages reported by the UEs. Such a problem can be avoided if the test operations can be standardized. In addition, standardized operations can reduce problems and improve the accuracy of data analysis.Do not save the test files in the same disk as the operating system. In this way, the test file can be obtained even though the computer is faulty. If you leave for a long time during the test, stop the test and disable the connection. In addition, take import things with you.

After test:
After the test, collect all the test devices. After the test, copy all the test files to the related owner for archiving. Ensure that the test files are complete. In addition, do not delete the test files from the computer. The test files should be saved on the computer for more than two weeks so that the test files can be obtained after the copied files become abnormal.
