Cyndon Dactylon, and Musa Acuminata as a Decorative Paper

(A Research Proposal)

Angelica Pauline S. Tolentino IV Charles Babbage

Rationale

Paper is important to mankind for many different reasons, most importantly because it enabled written communications to be easily copied and stored (as opposed to stone and clay tablets). Until now it is important

The researcher, concerned with this situation, will plan to create a science investigatory project that aims to make an economical, effective and efficient candle that can exterminate mosquitoes that is made out of pounded Kakawate (Gliricidia sepium) , Oregano (Origanum vulgare) , and Sambong (Blumea balsamifera) leaves mixed with used candles. This product could be an efficient mosquito killer, and that it can also be a candle, meaning it can be used during blackouts, another scenario where mosquitoes are usually active.

Materials and Procedure

For the Mosquito-exterminating candle to be prepared, the following materials will be used: Sambong, Oregano and Kakawate Leaves, used candles, a wick, a bowl, a mortar and

pestle, a casserole, and a can.

To prepare the leaves, they will be dried under the sun for some hours. When significant time has passed, the dried leaves will be pounded with the use of a mortar and pestle. The pounded leaves will later be stored in a bowl.

To acquire wax, The used candles will provide them, by melting them with the use of a casserole on heat. Before the wax could solidify, the leaves will be added, and will remain heated for a few more minutes. After the minutes have passed, the wax will be transferred to a small can, and that will be the time the wax would be allowed to solidify, but before that, a wick will be placed.

Implications

This study will prove that the Kakawate, Oregano, Sambong leaves combined with used Candle Wax can be effective as a Mosquito-exterminating candle. This can help people especially those who could not afford an insecticide, and also people who are in blackout-prone areas because blackouts are times when mosquitoes are usually present.

Time Table

This study may span from 2-3 months, in order to gather sufficient data. The rate of drying of the leaves may vary depending on the sunlight availability. Weather factors may also

affect presence of mosquitoes. Availability of other materials are also factors in hindering the progress made by the researcher.

Budget

The product will not cost too much as it will only need leaves from the plants mentioned, wax recycled from old candles, and the wax container needed is a recycled can, the object that its shape will be taken by the wax as it solidifies . The only possible material that can be bought is the candle wick.
