Drug Classification: Oral antiseptic Mechanism of action: Protection against oral bacterial and fungal infection to give fast relief from sore throat and mouth ulcers. First, bactidol quickly reduces bacteria in the affected areas to help relieve and prevent soreness, then hexetidine contains adheres to affected areas for extended period of time, giving long lasting protection. Dosage: mouthful should be held in the mouth, swished and gargled for 30sec in the morning and evening. Use full strength. Brand Name: CELEBREX Generic Name: Celecoxib CLASSIFICATIONS Therapeutic: Anti-rheumatics, NSAIDS Pharmacologic: COX-2 inhibitors ACTIONS Physiologic Mechanism Decreased pain and inflammation caused by arthiritis Pharmacologic Mechanism Prevention of M Inhibits the enzyme COX-2. This enzyme is required for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. INDICATION Relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis. Relief of signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis in adults. NURSING CONSIDERATIONS Assess patients range of motion, degree of swelling, and pain in affected joints before and periodically throughout therapy. Assess patient for allergy to sulfonamides, aspirin, or NSAIDS. Patients with these allergies should not receive celecoxib. May be administered without regard to meals. Instruct patient to take celecoxib exactly as directed. Do not take more than prescribed dose. Increasing doses does not appear to increase effectiveness. Advise patient to notify health care professional promptly if signs or symptoms of GI toxicity (abdominal pain, black stools), skin rash, unexplained weight gain, edema occurs. Patient should discontinue celecoxib and notify health care professional if signs and symptoms of hepatotoxicity (nausea, fatigue, lethargy, pruritus, jaundice, upper right quadrant tenderness, flu-like symptoms) occur.

Nursing Considerations - Assess bowel pattern before and during treatment as pseudomembranous colitis may occur. - Report hematuria or oliguria as high doses can be nephrotoxic. - Assess respiratory status. - Observe for anaphylaxis. - Ensure that the patient has adequate fluid intake during any diarrhea attack. If the patient develops a rash, wheezing, itching, fever or swelling in the joints, this could indicate an allergy and should be reported. - Patients must ensure they take the full course of the medicine. - The medicine must be taken in equal doses around the clock to maintain level in the blood. - If oral contraceptives are used, use alternative contraception. - Report diarrhea, cramping and blood in stools as pseudomembranous colitis may occur.
