No Lye Hair Relaxer

This hair relaxer is a two-part guanidine carbonate system. Guanidine hydroxide is the active ingredient and is formed by reacting guanidine carbonate with calcium hydroxide in the cream phase. While it can be very effective, even on tightly curled hair, the formula produces a cream that is milder than conventional lye-type relaxers. Guanidine carbonate systems tend to cause less stinging and scalp irritation and, for this reason, have become the dominant relaxer technology in formulations geared for home use. Ingredients Part A COSMOWAX P (Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Ceteareth-20) CRODACOL C95 (Cetyl Alcohol NF) BRIJ S2 (Steareth-2) Mineral Oil 70ssu Petrolatum BRIJ S10 (Steareth-10) Part B Propylene Glycol Deionized Water Part C Calcium Hydroxide Deionized Water Suppliers: 1. Croda pH=12.00.5; Viscosity=128,000cps 10% (RVT Spindle TD @ 10rpm @ 25C) Procedure Combine ingredients of Part A with mixing and heat to 70-75C. Combine ingredients of Part B with mixing and heat to 70-75C. Add Part B to Part A with mixing and cool to 60C. Combine ingredients of Part C. Mix well and add to Part A/B. Procedure Combine ingredients of Part A with mixing and heat to 70-75C. Cool to 45C and add Part B with mixing. Cool to desired fill temperature. Note: The relaxer is activated by adding approximately 57gms of activator to 210gms cream. This quantity is sufficient for a single application.
