Access To Buckley AFB


1 6th Avenue Extension: SH 30/Liverpool to E-470 $ 17,508,000 Summary: Construct one half of a 6-lane arterial from Tower Road to E-470. Project includes land acquisition, environmental mitigation, roadway, and box culverts to cross Murphy Creek and Coal Creek tributary, as well as the bridge to cross Coal Creek and road extension 600 feet past E-470. This project would link up with the 6th Avenue widening projects. 2 Tower Rd - Colfax Avenue to 6th $ 8,921,000

Summary: Construction of one half of 6 lane arterial, bridge costs, and right-of-way acquisition related to extending Tower Road from 6th Avenue to Colfax. This will benefit Buckley AFB and make a direct connection from I-70 to the main base entrance.

Access to Fitzsimons/Anschutz Medical Center


3 Chambers Road/Colfax Avenue Intersection Improvements $ 860,000 Summary: Add an additional westbound left turn lane, an additional southbound right turn lane and an additional northbound right turn lane on Chambers Road/Colfax Avenue Intersection. 4 Colfax Avenue Pedestrian Crossing Enhancement $ 1,282,000

Summary: 1. Install enhanced and high visibility pedestrian crossing markings, including signs, in-ground lights, colored concrete paving, or special pavers; 2. Provide a raised or textured crosswalk between right turn pork chop islands and the sidewalk at right turn location of northeast corner of Peoria Street and Colfax Avenue; 3. Install directional curb ramps on Intersections of Colfax Ave/Peoria St and Colfax Ave/Fitzsimons Pkwy. 5 Colfax/Peoria Intersection Operational Improvement Summary: Add dual left turn lanes for WB and NB movements at Colfax Ave/Peoria St intersection. $ 558,000

6 Fitzsimons Campus - Local Bicycle Access $ 112,000 Summary: Install street signs and paint sharrows on street pavement on 1. 17th Avenue west of Peoria Street; 2. 23rd Avenue west of Peoria Street; 3. Oswego Street between 17th Avenue and 25th Avenue; 4. Xanadu Street between 6th Avenue and Colfax Avenue; 5. Ursula Street between 6th Avenue and Colfax Avenue; 6. Hoffman Boulevard Between Del Mar Circle northeast to Xanadu Street. 7 Montview Bike, Ped and Median Improvements: Yosemite to Peoria $ 4,600,000

Summary: Construct enhanced sidewalks, bike lanes and street medians and pedestrian crossings throughout the two mile segment of Montview Blvd. 8 Montview Blvd Improvements - Peoria to Fitzsimons Pkwy $ 1,500,000

Summary: Funds would be used to address a portion of an $11.0 million project that would improve Montview Boulevard between Fitzsimons Parkway and Peoria Street. There may be oppurtunities for funds from campus partners, Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority (FRA) and the metro district as well.

Access to SE Aurora
9 Arapahoe Rd - Waco to Himalaya $ 1,561,000 Summary: Improvements proposed by the City of Centennial to Arapahoe Road. Access Improvements into SE Aurora via Arapahoe Road. This cost assumed a 20 percent City match, with the remainder covered by Centennial and/or Arapahoe County. 10 Gun Club Rd Widening - Quincy Ave to Aurora Parkway $ 5,733,000

Summary: Widen approximately 1-1/2 miles of Gun Club Road from a 2-lane roadway to a 4-lane collector from Quincy Avenue south to where it turns into Aurora Parkway. Cost assumes 100% city, although there is the potential for a cost sharing joint agreement for this project with Arapahoe County.

Access to SE Aurora
11 Quincy Ave Intersection @ E470 and Gun Club Road $ 9,793,000 Summary: Construct new intersection @ E-470 and Quincy as area growth warrants traffic system improvement. This cost assumed a 50 percent match, as there is the potential for a cost sharing joint agreement for this project with Arapahoe County.

Access to Parker Corridor


12 EB right turn radius at Quincy Ave. to SE bound Smoky Hill Rd. Summary: Add a Dedicated Rt. Onto Smoky Hill Road from EB Quincy to increase traffic flow during peak events. 13 Free Right Turn - WB Quincy to NB Parker $ 1,059,000 $ 746,000

Summary: Construct a free right turn lane and 1000 lf of acceleration lane on Northbound Parker Road from Quincy Avenue. Improvements include new travel lane, vertical curb, sidewalk, new entrace to shopping mall and dry utility relocations.

Access to I-225 Corridor


14 Iliff LRT Station Structure Parking (900 Spaces) $ 6,000,000 Summary: The city needs to participate with RTD and the station area developer in funding the construction of a parking structure to ensure that sufficient parking is provided and to ensure that sufficient land is provided for critical development. The cost is assumed to be split between Aurora, RTD, and the developer. Cost excludes possible parking fees.

General Sidewalk, Medians, and Ped Improvements


15 6th Ave Sidewalk from Del Mar Circle (East side) to Potomac (South) or Vaughn (North) $ 929,000 Summary: Construct a 10 foot sidewalk on the south side of the 6th Avenue from Potomac Street to Del Mar Circle and on the north side from Vaughn to Del Mar Cirlce. 16 6th Avenue Sidewalk Improvements from Dayton to Del Mar Circle (West side) $ 669,000 Summary: Remove and replace existing sidewalk with an 8-10 foot wide sidewalk. Retaining wall may be required in some areas along the 1.5 mile section. 17 11th Avenue / Havana St. Bus Pull Out $ 51,000

Summary: Provide city-standard bus pull out on NB Havana, just north of 11th Avenue. This will allow the buses to pull out of the north-bound travel lane, allowing other traffic to continue. 18 56th Avenue Access Improvement at Ireland Street Summary: Roadway improvements on a two lane rural road on 56th Avenue at Ireland Street. 19 Alameda Avenue Additional Lane at I-225 $ 1,285,000 $ 1,400,000

Summary: Add additional left turn lane from Alameda Avenue to SB I-225. Add dedicated right thru lane from I-225 to mall entrance. 20 City Wide Bike/Ped Connections Summary: This would fund various bike/ped connections throughout the city. $ 558,000

General Sidewalk, Medians, and Ped Improvements


21 City Wide Median Development $ 6,258,000 Summary: Design 8.0 miles of median improvements focusing on water conservation and reduced maintenance costs in road sections noted below. The projects were chosen in such a way as to complete longer stretches of roadway, as opposed to picking non-contiguous projects. In this package, 3.5 miles of Chambers Road, 3 miles of Tower Road, 0.7 miles of Alameda Avenue, and .75 miles of Aurora Parkway will be improved. This would accomplish approximately 15 percent of the median improvements needed in the city at this time. The inclusion of water conservation and reduced maintenance costs components in each project increases the per project capital cost by an estimated 20 percent. This project does not include approximately $80,000 of ongoing annual operating costs associated with the new medians, which is about 25 percent of the estimated maintenance need of traditional turf components.
