SCHOOL DEMOGRAPHICS: This school (School ASE) serves approximately 120 students in grades K through 6.

There are 8 full-time teachers, teaching core content and specialty classes. This is a parochial school. It is not an ethnically diverse school with virtually the entire student population considered White. One hundred percent of the students have English as their primary language. MATURITY MODEL BENCHMARKS: 1.

Administrative
Policy Behavioral: Emergent (Appropriate technology use is considered, but is informal and inconsistent.) Resource/Infrastructure: Emergent (No technology policy exists.) Note: There are no official rules surrounding the appropriate use of technology. Planning Behavioral: Emergent (Informal planning process, isolated to projects, and is budget driven.) Resource/Infrastructure: Emergent (Informal plan) Budget Behavioral: Emergent (Formal technology budgeting process with higher priority, but with relatively simple resourcing) Resource/Infrastructure: Emergent (Little budget allocated for technology) Note: Funding for technology is minimal.

Administrative Information Behavioral: Emergent (Administrative systems are utilized by a few of the staff members, primarily to benefit administration.) Resource/Infrastructure: Emergent (Administrative systems are available to all administrators and staff.)

2. Curricular
Electronic Information Behavioral: Islands (Students and staff are somewhat dependent upon information resources and utilize them often.) Resource/Infrastructure: Islands (Resources are beyond basic, but lack depth and are not available to all areas of the school) Note: Each classroom (beginning with 3rd grade) has between 4 and 6 computers for student use. Assessment Behavioral: Emergent (Few staff and no students use technology for evaluation of student work.) Resource/Infrastructure: Emergent (Electronic tools are rarely used for assessment and are not readily available.) Curricular Integration Behavioral: Emergent (Some of the technology is used in the curriculum on a limited basis.) Resource/Infrastructure: Emergent (Technology is limited to only a few curricular areas.) Teacher Use Behavioral: Islands (Regular use by teachers, but not integrated into daily work) Resource/Infrastructure: Integrated (Teachers have access to technology in their work area) Note: All teachers use what is available to them to the best of their abilities. All teachers have a computer with high-speed, wireless Internet, SmartBoard and overhead projection systems. Some have wireless microphones in their classroom. Student Use Behavioral: Islands (Students use technology often, but in limited ways) Resource/Infrastructure: Islands (Some students have consistent and regular access to appropriate technologies) Note: Students use technology in basic ways, primarily for word processing and generalized research on the internet.

3. Support
Stakeholder Involvement Behavioral: Emergent (Some of the groups are aware of the planning and implementation procedure, but few are engaged in the process) Resource/Infrastructure: Emergent (Few groups are represented in the planning and implementation process.) Administrative Support Behavioral: Islands (Peripheral involvement by the administration in planning, practice, and implementation) Resource/Infrastructure: Islands (Little formal administration, time and support allocated to the planning and implementation process) Note: Teachers are responsible for implementing technology in the classroom. Training Behavioral: Emergent (Few staff members participate in technology training activities) Resource/Infrastructure: Emergent (Little formal training.) Note: There is no training offered.

4. Connectivity
Local Area Networking Behavioral: Integrated (Staff and students use available network sporadically, usually only for print sharing and limited data.) Resource/Infrastructure: Integrated (High-speed networking with access to all working environments) District Area Networking (WAN) Behavioral: Emergent (Little or no use of area services exists.) Resource/Infrastructure: Emergent (Little or no district-area networking infrastructure, with little or no applications or available data.) Internet Access

Behavioral: Integrated (Most staff and students use the Internet frequently. Use is integrated into the curriculum.) Resource/Infrastructure: Intelligent (Direct Internet access to all locations) Note: Teachers and students have access to wireless Internet. Teachers utlilize internet resources to support curriculum. Communication Systems Behavioral: Intelligent (E-mail is an integral part of the school learning and support communications.) Resource/Infrastructure: Integrated (E-mail is available to all staff and many students) Note: All staff have access to e-mail, and it is used to communicate with parents on a regular basis

5. Innovation
New Technologies Behavioral: Islands (New technologies are accepted by many staff members, although opportunities for experimentation are limited) Resource/Infrastructure: Islands (New technologies readily accepted by many staff with little implementation) Note: Staff members are receptive about new technologies. Comprehensive Technologies Behavioral: Emergent (Technology is fairly comprehensive, but lacks more advanced techniques) Resource/Infrastructure: Emergent (Available technology is limited and under utilized.) Note: Teachers and students have access to technology that is used for word processing and researching. SUMMARY: The rankings above are based on my observations while I worked as a part-time Spanish teacher for one semester at a small catholic elementary school, ASE. Due to my short tenure

and part-time status at the school, my evaluations above are based on what I recall from memory and not necessarily hard facts. I would rate the schools technological environment as Emergent. Looking back on my experience at the school, I realize that even though the school lacks the resources to integrate technology to the degree that many public schools have, they still provide some opportunities for integration of technology in the classroom, and they certainly provide a top notch education to the students.
