Most qualifications / experience in India are comparable to Australian standards. The Skills Assessment takes about 4-20 weeks and costs vary from AU $300 - $1700. Once you obtain the Skills Assessment report, you now take it to the Immigration Authorities (DIAC) who processes your Migration Petition. This takes between 8-36 months depending on the migration program you are applying through. On successful completion, the DIAC directs you to take Medicals and police clearance & you get your visa approval. Then the Australian High Commission overseas stamps the visa.
Once you obtain your Visa, you can enter Australia with your family and stay there forever. You could choose to enter any time before the initial entry date given in the grant letter and also choose to live between India & Australia and keep your Indian Citizenship.
