Initial situation

What led Jednota to change?


A toughening of competitive conditions forced managers at Jednota to re-evaluate a whole range of factors that influence the effectiveness of the individual shops. In this context optimisation of telecommunications costs could not be ignored. Fixed lines were replaced by mobile phones on the O2 network, which raised the problem of how to connect the payment terminals. Although the supplier of payment terminals provided equipment with a GPRS module, and SIM cards on the O2 data tariff were inserted, testing showed the payment terminals failed to function due to low reception sensitivity of GPRS modems. Apart from a few exceptions where a full strength GPRS signal was measured, the fault was evident in almost all the shops. The problem seemed unsolvable because the GPRS terminal did not permit connection of an external antenna.

The Solution Why did the customer select 2N EasyRoute?


After a detailed study of the problem we proposed a new method of connecting the payment terminals using 2N EasyRoute. After connecting a payment terminal to our solution it immediately started to communicate with the centre over VPN. This connection was confirmed to be without fault for the entire period of testing using various payment cards and charge coupons. 2N EasyRoute proved able to solve the problem with connection of both the payment terminal and fixed phone lines. In addition, the customer also appreciated the savings in its monthly phone bill in the form of cancelling fixed lines and the introduction of a single monthly fee.

Results and Benefits What changed?


In simple terms functionality and effectiveness. The customer gained a single combined solution for the reliable connection of payment terminals, and also maintained the original phones in its shops. One SIM card and one fee ensure both voice and data communication for each shop, which has significantly reduced the costs of the individual shops.

Response of the participating parties

The solution proposed for testing was connection of the payment terminal through an Ethernet interface to 2N EasyRoute. The signal strength was significantly better with the use of an external antenna thanks to which a stable data connection was established.

2N EasyRoute fully proved itself in the basic version, even without an external AGI antenna, which can be connected via the 2N EasyRoute SMA connector.

2N EasyRoute was for Jednota a surprisingly simple method to solve the problem that was complicating the day-to-day running of the shops. It also proved able to reduce telecommunications costs.
