Dear Colleagues: Now that we have all returned safely from our intensive days of work in Uganda and

after having returned to our habitual chores, we write you to begin the task of transforming our interesting and instructive discussions into a publishable product. To this end we would like to lay out the steps we agreed to in our final moments in Kampala: 1) We would like to remind you of the deadlines that we set for ourselves for the process of assembling a text for Zed Press. - IMMEDIATELY: By now you should have sent a written version of your comments to the person who wrote the paper you provided oral comments during the conference. - February 15th: Authors submit manuscripts - April 15th: The editors will return their evaluations of the manuscripts, indicating their acceptance (or not) and the suggestions for revisions. - July 15th: Submission of final manuscripts 2) For the preparation of the manuscripts we offer the following recommendations: 2.1. With regard to the type of paper: The workshop offered us an opportunity to exchange interesting ideas and new concepts that might inform each of the individual contributions. We also learned from the commentators remarks and the ensuing discussions by the group as a whole. But the final versions that will be submitted for peer review and then by Zed Books, must be of academic quality and meet standard for data and substantiation as well as adhere to norms for formatting. Because of this, it appears opportune to suggest that each author revise a series of useful criteria to determine the relevance and quality of their essays. (In this regard we recommend consulting the guidelines offered by the publisher: http://zedbooks.co.uk/for-authors#manuscript-submission-guidelines) - IN PREPARING YOUR REVISIONS, please note: The essay should be directly focused on a defined problem in terms of the discussion about water/poverty/development. In this regard, it is useful to refresh your recollection of the terms of reference for the conference itself (annexed). This will allow each one of our essays to constitute a definite contribution to a collective shared discussion of the problem so that the book also becomes a coherent product that offers a unified analysis. -The text should be organized in terms of a pertinent and significant research question on the broader subject and this question should be explicitly formulated in the text. -The essay should be internally coherent, assuring a consistency among the different parts of the essay, a logical flow in the argument, and assuring an appropriate balance among the introduction, the analysis and the conclusions.

-The paper should be as consistent and short as possible, so as to permit the publication of as many articles as possible. -The chapter should be analytical in framing and directly addressing the problem or research question, carefully avoiding eminently descriptive texts. To this end, we will attempt to limit the volume of information presented, to assure that it directly addresses the broader issues of the Colloquium and the research questions of the analysis, so as not to dilute the strength of the argument with general or contextual sections. In cases where it is necessary to include information to contextualize the central problem addressed by the paper, we suggest considering doing this in a synthetic and conceptual way, making reference to other texts, rather than reproducing the information in your essay. -It is important to ensure that the principal concepts used in the text especially those related to the triad water-poverty-development be tied into the theoretical discussion with references (citations) rather than more text. This is desirable not only because it offers a theoretical contribution to the reader but also because it creates a potential comparative element of the contributions of each chapter. 2.2. With regard to the formatting of the text itself, please bear in mind the recommendations from Zed Books: http://zedbooks.co.uk/for-authors#manuscriptsubmission-guidelines 2.3. With regard to language use: Please assure that your text is revised by a native speaker of English or an expert translator, since the editing process does not foresee translation or stylistic corrections of the manuscripts. Essays will not be accepted if they are not adequately edited.
